This isn't for any particular game, but if I ever find myself part of a powergaming-oriented group, I might drag it out. You can critique this if you want, but I'm not really lost as to what to do here or in dire need of aid, don't feel obliged to if you don't want to or anything. ---- How could we have been such fools? We stayed in our hidden cavern in the Seawall Mountains, our illusory tricks misdirecting any explorer who might stumble upon us away, leaving us in isolation. We lived in peace and plenty, Siberys blessing us with Her bountry. We congratulated each other -- that is, we congratulated ourselves -- on how peacefully, how prosperously, and how virtuously we lived our lives. We meditated and prayed, seeking to bring ourselves closer to Siberys. The Last War broke out, thousands dying. We shook our heads sadly, and said to each other, "thank Siberys that we are not the Subjects of Galifar" The Karrnathi Royalty sold their kingdom's loyalty to the Blood of Vol in exchange for dark magic, shackling the people in evil and binding their corpses to servitude after their death. We shook our heads sadly, and said to each other, "thank Siberys that we are not Karrnathis." The Mourning consumed Cyre, killing millions and driving others from their land, creating a realm of horror and mist. We shook our heads sadly, and said to each other, "thank Siberys that we are not Cyreans." We did not lift a claw to help those less fortunate than we. We merely continued to live our cloistered lives of petty, smug virtue. The message that Siberys delived to us was a harsh one, yet perhaps there was no other way to shock us out of our complacency. The Irvhir raiders saw through our illusions, their own iejirastrices dispelling our tricks and traps that guarded our isolation as if they were no more than soap bubbles. Their gix -- savage warriors of Khyber -- easily shredded our our gix, who had for centuries fought in no more than ceremonial training exercises. We were completely unprepared. Many of us -- including me -- hid away in the furthest recesses of our settlement, as the Irvhir stole the accumulation of magical products from centuries of industrious peace. Those they could find -- ternmolik, gix, and iejirastrix, adults, children, and eggs, all alike -- were killed. Finally, after setting alight that which they could not steal, the raiders left. Those who had hidden emerged. One third of us were dead, and the bulk of our precious possessions were gone. The floors of our incubator were covered in gruesome yoke, unborn kobolds floating lifelessly among the yolk and shell fragments. We bewailed our misfortune. How could it be that we -- we, so worthy and virtuous -- could be afflicted with those misfortunes which we we had only heard of among those in distant lands? We pledged that we would survive, we would rebuild, and we would prosper once more, and that soon newer and more clever tricks and illusions would guard us, so that even those irvhir who remembered raiding us would be lost and confused if they tried to find us again. Yet when the surviving Iejirastrices sought a cause, and explanation for the raid, they found out the truth. We could not retain our isolation. The cancer of evil that grew in Khyber's heart was spreading, whether in the Mists of Cyre-that-was, the undead armies of Karrnath, or destruction and end of Galifar. If it spread further, it would engulf Eberron, and eventually Syberis. Our isolation and wards might protect us for some time -- they had failed once already, yet they might be restored and function once again, for a time -- yet we could not exist alone as a bastion of peace and happiness as Eberron was engulfed in misery forever. The seers saw that we must attempt to combat evil in the world. Some would stay behind, guarding the cavern and slowly rebuilding what had been lost, and some Gix would prepare for earnest battle and cover our cavern in hidden traps. Others would journey forth, to find out more about the corruption that was spreading across the world, to combat it, and to send what information we could back to those at home, hoping that they could find some way to stop it. I was one of those chosen to go forth into the world. I descended from the only home I ever knew, into a world I had only heard of from books and visions, heading toward Korranberg, hoping that the great repository of knowledge within that fabled city would hold at least a few of the answers I sought. After all, the favor of Syberis will only be restored to us, if we restore our own obedience to the duty of our birthright -- to serve the Dragon Above, healing the world and making what is wrong right once more. We cannot fully reveal what and who we are to the world. The evil of Khyber would find that information, and use it to detroy us. Yet still, those of us who have gone out into the world must work quietly and diligently to discover what can be done to shift the tide, and to aid in that change wherever we can.
