Okay, new campaign starting up w/my group.

In this game opposed to our last, I am getting in from the start and the DM is also going to be working with stories and giving opportunities based on good roleplaying and backgrounds.

So I was pondering my characters background, and I would like my character to have a hate for abberations. Why? (Here's my thoughts, please read/add/modify/work magic on them.)

His father was a powerful spellcaster (cliche huh?). However he (father) was taken as a thrall for an extremely powerful Illithid. After years of being the thrall to this creature, there was a Githyanki raid in which they used a powerful device to disrupt the Illithid's control over their slaves. He escaped and managed to find a hiding place in the underdark with another female slave. They lived in literally a hole for weeks, time in which he developed 1. a strong sense of legacy (IE my character) and 2. a last ditch spell that could distract an Illithid long enough for one of them to get away.

When the Illithids eventually tracked down my character's parents my father had prepared long enough so that after the Illithids had tortured him and her for a good time, he let loose the spell and my character's mother was able to escape.

She made it to the surface and delivered my character, and after the 14th birthday of my character she told him of his conception and the situation.

He now studies arcane magic to protect himself and anybody he enjoys the company of because he knows that a force more powerful than himself could come at any time to try and destroy everything he has, he believes it to be a law of the multiverse.

NOW....That's the base for my character...but here's where it get's interesting

Another player, let's call him M, also plays arcane spellcasters. We both roleplay well, and we are both very experienced players. I'm loud, charismatic, and flashy in my style. He however plays a more quiet, studious spell caster.

Well, to make a long story short, we thought it would be funny to have our two characters Karmically tied.

He doesn't want to do the abberation thing with his character too...that would just be overdoing it. But I mainly came here to see your guys' ideas on how this could possibly work.

I'm thinking that we grew up as brothers, or through a special situation had to rely on eachother for survival and magical energies crossed.

But anyway, go at it!

P.S. - It's an idea, but do you think it would be justified if my character became psionic and did the PRC which advances both an arcane and psionic class?

If the illithids tortured his mother, possibly they used some psionic torture which would have opened up the aptitude for that in him.

Thoughts?

Okay, two parts here.

1.) For the karmic connection, your mother had to go somewhere. A former Illithid slave pregnant with a child has to go somewhere upon escaping to the surface. I'm thinking a temple of whichever good-aligned Cleric suits you. (You don't have to be a follower of that religion, it's just where you grew up). Your friend could be your surrogate older brother, committed to looking out for you on your quest. The two of you could have been trained together by an Archmage (or Mystic Theurge) of the Deity, and so your magic is connected the same way you are. Plus, if you're both Wizards at the start, you'll likely be sharing spellbooks, and that's another kind of connection.

2.) As for being Psionic, that actually makes quite a bit of sense. It's the old saying of keeping your enemies closer, in a practical application. Studying the powers of the mind to fight or defend against one of the most capable races of psi-users on Earth (or wherever the campaign actually takes place) just makes good sense from the point of view of an intelligent character (assuming you're going Wiz/Psion).

Best of luck
