| Insignia)11-10-04, 08:13 AM | Im just about to start playing with a nice new crew, and I must get my character done as soon as possible... It's supposed to be a human high class fighter/rogue assassin type, preferably of noble origin. I found myself being hard pressed to figure out a reason why/how a character of noble heritage would get involved in such affairs... So, I was thinking maybe the family fortune was wasted by his gambling father, leaving our young character in the streets to find his way around. Perhaps a veteran member of a thieves' guild noticed him and took him under his wing? ...or maybe he went to a prestigious assassin academy? My mind is completely blocked... You can make all the changes you like, even think of a new concept from scratch. I appreciate all the help I can get. Also, his mental stats are: 13 int, 13 wis, 14 cha. How do i act them out? ...how smart is 13 int? ...how good looking or charismatic 14 cha is? Thanks in advance. ~I |

Perhaps a veteran member of a thieves' guild noticed him and took him under his wing? ...or maybe he went to a prestigious assassin academy? Some years back I was reading te 'Assasin Aprentice trilogy' written by Robin Hobb. It's a story of a boy that is the bastard of a King/Royal (not quite sure). In this world bastards have a special position, and are often used as assasins. THis boy, called Fitz, gets a high class assasin-training from the old Royal assasin. this could be an idea for you. another idea: maybe this noble family has along lasting feud with other noble families and are taking the conflict very seriious. Some sons are being tought in the art of magic, some in the art of assasination etc. Also, his mental stats are: 13 int, 13 wis, 14 cha. How do i act them out? ...how smart is 13 int? ...how good looking or charismatic 14 cha is?~I THese stats are actually pretty good. Remember that an average Human has a score of 10 in each (well, at least for INT, that is). A person with such skills has good analytcal skill, good people skills and is a convincing personality. - I think with INT 13 you can , for instance, ,manage higher education. - with WIS 13 you have a more than average 'feeling'for people.....hard to explain. - CHA 14 means (in my book) that you are able to convince people well, have a appealing personality and are good looking....but you're not the next messias, the grand inspiring general or grand politician.............but on a tactical level, you're talented with people and people like to listen to you. But I have to admit, ability-scores are always subject to the grey area of interpretation. |

Only problem I see with it is a strong attachment to the family/family affairs. Even though it would make for some really interesting adventure hooks, I'm not sure how much it would pin my character down and how much the DM would like it... I'll check it with him, thanks for your feedback. :) |
| Nova_blade11-11-04, 04:26 AM | Perhaps a young noble who is quite simply bored with courtly life, and likes to "slum it", as the term goes. Maybe he's also a notorious duelist, and a glory hog - a sore loser, in short. So he cheats to make sure he wins every match, perhaps doing his own dirty work? |
| KarateKari11-11-04, 10:45 AM | You could be a young noble who fell into a bad crowd and took up their ways. Perhaps you enjoyed "slumming it" as Nova Blade says, and got involved in some underhanded dealings, and decided you liked it. You could also have been disowned from your family for some reason, and so in despair turned to the streets. Perhaps you were disowned for the reason above. Or you could make up some other reason entirely. Or, rather than being disowned, you might have simply left, for any reason of your choice. Maybe your father was disappointed in you because he wanted you to be a great warrior like himself, but you just weren't inclined that way. Maybe you had a big fight when he wanted you to go into training to be a knight or some such thing, and you refused. That could provide cause for either a disownment or running away. Or, when you were young, you fell in love with a peasant girl. Obviously, your parents opposed the match, but you were young and foolish and madly in love, so you married her anyway. Perhaps your family turned their backs on you because of it, or perhaps you chose to turn your back on them. In order to survive, though, you took up a slightly unsavory profession. Or, your wife was murdered (perhaps even by your own family, who never wanted you to marry her to begin with). In your grief, you sought the training you would need to find and kill her murderer. After you did so, you didn't know what else to do with your life, but you seemed to be pretty good at the finding and killing, so you stuck with it. (Alternately, you could still be on the quest to find her killer, if the DM wanted to play along a bit.) Just some random thoughts. Good luck! |
| webgear6811-12-04, 03:38 PM | u could have been caught doing something "wrong" and have been sent away by your family but said screw them im striking out on my own. the wrong thing could be anything and as simple as insulting someone higher in "status" than your family or meeting the wrong girl or be innocenat and be at the wrong spot at the wrong time |
