| Killah Niv3s02-26-05, 05:47 PM | I am playing a goblin specialist necromancer (need a cool name). One of his main quirks is he never talks to anyone execpt his skeleton familiar (UA varient) but one thing keeps bugging me WHY?. I have his backstory in bullet points (so don't expect great writing). - was born in a temple of a pagan god - when he was 5 his parents died and he began wandering - was taken in by a wizard guild and trained in the art of wizardry - was harrassed by everyone for being affiliated to pagan god except for his wizard teacher - found ancient book of necromancy when he was 15 and used it to slaughter wizard guild (was already slightly crazy) - when he saw his teacher, who by now was like a father to him, he tried to revive him use ancient book but failed. Destroying the book and part of his mind. - now talks to wizard teachers skeleton as if alive (which it kinda is) We might even make a special progression for the skeleton (also need ideas on that but it might be suited to the character optimisation board) Any help or feedback would be appreciated (even one dissing my use of bullet points :P ) |

Just Shut Up! They are my friends! They wouldn't laugh at me!" or "No, I don't think that she would make a good wife for you." a little unbalanced in the head, sure... but the party keeps you around for your talent (or just to laugh at you behind your back) "Stop it! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" *smacks skeleton with a stick* |

| Harrow Blade03-03-05, 12:49 AM | It occured to me that perhaps this powerful necromantic book partially succeeded in turning his master into a Lich, the process was flawed trapping the soul of his master in the bones of what is effectively a skeleton with none of the lich powers. As your necromancer's state of mind was affected in that same incident he is the only one his former master can communicate with via thier faint link. Is it also possible that your Necro believes he is the one who is dead and the skeleton familiar is his only link to his living companions? I viable reason for not talking to any one else. In regards to the name, did your character take on a name of his own devising? or was it one given to him by parents, teacher etc. I would suggest that perhaps you use a thesaurus to find locate a less common name of a theme associated with your character. Or failing that just start by trying random names, part names and sounds and just mashing them together. Eg, a character I have is named Harrow (favorite character :) ) Harrow means to distress, plow or break ground according to the book I used. The right name can make a character, the wrong name can earn him a life time of ridicule. |

"Tell the brutish fighter I'll have none of their silly plans, Mr. Skellie" or somesuch. How did he slaughter a whole wizard guild? And who or what killed his "father wizard"? Why did the wizard take the goblin under his wing? Perhaps the guild did things to it, and the father felt ashamed at what they had done to this poor thing? Kinda like monkeys in lab nowadays. |
