I have a character that researches magic from a relatively mundane point of view (no spellcasting ability). Due to house rules, a variety of technology is possible in creation, similar to a more mystically oriented steampunk. How would I roleplay this character if his Intelligence is 16 and Wisdom is 1 (due to heavy research into advanced rune theory).

He seems to me like he'd be smart, and very capable-- but he'd act like a small child. Even casting spells requires study skills, and that wisdom may make it difficult. I don't know how he'd gain the remarkable knowledge to be intelligence 16 if his wisdom is 1 with this handicap.

His Wisdom wasn't always that low, and in fact started off average. Since he's learned his trade in the field, he's suffered a few blows to his mind that can be described as sanity draining.

Wisdom is very hardwired into us, moreso then intelligence even. Losing common sense and our ability to properly plan and assess a situation is astrange side effect for a blow to the head.

Some suggestions might be to make him crazily devoted to whatever his current self prescribed "mission", even if it's a simple scribely service or even a trip to the store, that, so much so that he might act violently towards anyone who gets in the way. In essence, he loses the ability to logically adapt to any new situation that may come his way. Someone interferes with his current agenda and he goes crazy. Another suggestion might be on the opposite spectrum. He becomes childlike with no attention span, unable to focus on any task for a period of time or even a simple conversation without his mind wandering to other things. He might automatically trust people, and be unable to make a simple connections between what he sees and the situation.

I might role play that example like this. He's walking down an alleyway at noon, when a robber pulls out a dagger and says gruffly "give me what you've got." He responds in quick succession, "What do I have? Who are you?! Do I know you? What is that you have in your hand... oooooh, I had a fine dagger once-- my father gave it to me, the handle was studded in rubies, but alas I think I lost it. Look at that squirrel!! Ooh look at the time, things to be done, things need doing. Nice autumn day to you sir." And he strides off quickly, with a little skip. The robber stares on, perplexed.
