Inspiration for a Cleric... [Archive] - Wizards Community

My last character died in a campaign im currently playing in, the party so far is looking like this:
Fighter/Rogue
Wizard
Rogue/Fighter
Rogue

All level 7 and so i'll be coming in at that level. I'm pretty much stuck playing some sort of healer and the party is short of a tank... Cleric seems like the obvious choice.

The only problem I have with a cleric is I am having trouble coming up with an interesting character... In this very campaign we have already have a low-intelligence yet friendly human Cleric...

I rolled as follows:
16, 16, 15, 11, 11, 6

Pretty good stats but if im going to be any good at fighting im going to be pretty much going as follows Str 16, Con 16, Wis 15(16,+1 for being level 7), Dex 11..... That leaves me with 6 either going on intelligence or charisma...

I need some inspiration here more than anything, I wouldn't mind playing either intelligence or charisma 6 as long as I could roleplay it through an interesting character. I'm considering a paranoid questing inquisitor type that sees evil round every corner but I could do with some more suggestions.

are you sure you want to be a Cleric, it's not the only healing class that can hold his own in a fight.

I think elf and half-orc would make your stats even lamer so you should avoid them

dont forget the Bard and Druid are good healers who can fight

Here's my recomendation:
1) Put the six in charisma.
2) Be a total narc.
You know how there was that really un-cool kid in high school? Not a geek, because he despised gaming along with all other forms of fun. Something below a geek. Probably talked about what he did in "youth group" all the time. Buts in on other people's conversations via phrases that start with "Well, my mom says..." or "my minister says..." Totally lacking in social skills, stuck-up, immature, awful sense of humor ("That's not funny, guys!"), and no backbone.

Be that guy, but grown up, and with a suit of armor and holy magic. When the rest of the party is hangin' out at the tavern, he sits gloomily in the corner. He treats casual coments made days ago as binding contracts. When captured by bandits, he says things like "I'm warning you! If you kill us, you'll all go to hell!" and "My god can beat up your god."

Yes! Yes! The uncharismatic minister described by MightyMcClaw seems like a bucketload of fun!! "My minister says that raising undead is evil, so we've got to go kill that necromancer, guys" and "my minister says sailors are filthy beggars, so I am not getting on that boat" make "my minister says" the funniest character-defining sentence ever.

However, forget trying to turn undead with that Charisma score! Ooh! Use Divine Feats to make use of them.

The reason your cleric is adventuring is no doubt because the members of his segregation sent him away because they couldn't stand him breathing down their necks, reporting every word they said to the senior clerics and making a show of his devotion all the time.

"Wretched undead spawn, fear the holy wraith of Pelor!! ... Come on, turn already... Please turn."

Trust me, I was had a cleric with a low charisma score. Your better off just wacking them with a mace. I'll have to agree; these two have a good concept right here.

Somehow, it almost sounds like a Ned Flanders.

I disagree; I didn't come up with the concept: it was MightyMcClaw that did. And a very hilarious one I might add!

Edit: However, seeing how the entire party seems focused on stealth (the wizard has acces to spells to tag along), I recommend playing a Cleric of Mask or any other god that grants access to the Trickery domain, so that you have access to the Hide skill. You don't want to be the thorn in your fellow PC's side, do you? If you play human, use your extra skill point to max out your hide skill and follow boldly where others have thread already.

Another option, if you can assume the risk, is to put the 6 on Constitution.

It may be that you had a severe illness since birth, which had almost killed you several times. Even though, you survived your childhood thanks to the village's healer (perhaps a cleric of Pelor or Ilmater, if you play forgotten Realms)...

The reasons of becoming a cleric: to bring relief to the sick...

It would be a background for a more serious campaign... my 2 cents...
