Ok everyone is going to have to think this one through with me, I sometimes get carried away when developing backgrounds... please keep that in mind. Anyways, my new character is a hexblade and the campaign is set in a large scale city where pretty much everything is happening. The game has already started I am a late comer to the campaign and I have not been introduced and my first game is to be this coming monday, but i am trying to pan out and make a decent background to give my character a place in the campaign as well as giving my dm something to work with in the story line to make my character involved more. Anyways besides that onto my information that I have decided upon in a general sort of way.

My character is a hexblade starting at the 4th level. I have decided that my character will be a florist... yes you read right a florist. My character will be a very inconspicuous hexblade that is to say nobody will look at this guy and say hey hes a powerful warrior who i wouldnt take on. Basically in appearance my character will be dressed very well petticoat bowler hat and even a cane (masterworked sword cane that basically looks like a very expensive ivory walking cane). He'll have the outer appearance of a gentleman with the little bit of a pinch and a tiny mustache and even hell a french accent if i feel like making the effort, but in reality hes a fighting machine. My character will own his own flower shop and in the flower shop he will have hidden his masterworked flamberge, which from his gentlemanly exterior nobody wwould expect. The problem is i want to eventually enter the prestige class of a dragon disciple and i was wondering in what way i could work this into a background for my character. I was thinking maybe my character could be secretly obsessed with dragons and through studying at discovered that a dragon of sorts was living underneath the city that the campaign was set under and had set up shopp there in hopes of finding it and searching for this dragon. I don't know ive got a million possibilities running through my head and was wondering what anyone else migh want to throw at me in terms of ideas?

What race? Becuase if it's human, that's a preety good backround. I came up with something pretty stuiped, I made it so that my Bladeback got locked out of his own house and started to adventure to find the key.

Sorry but ive looked over my background and would like to know what people think:

My character is a hexblade starting at the 3rd level. He'll have the outer appearance of a gentleman with the little bit of a pinch and a tiny moustache and even hell a french accent if i feel like making the effort, but in reality hes a fighting machine. My character will own his own flower shop and in the flower shop he will have hidden his masterworked flamberge, which from his gentlemanly exterior nobody would expect. My character worships the god of dragons ( you can help out on this god of course) and secretly collects knowledge on dragons (one more specifically then others) , as from an early age he had a horrific encounter with a dragon while living on a farm in the countryside with his family. His family and livestock on the farm were brutally killed by a passing by black dragon who cruelly in the evil fashion of dragons decided to have a snack and destroy the lives of the farmers for the sheer thrill of the kill and joy of the murder. Jean-Jacques(not la Tulipe yet) was a meer child of 4 at the time and survived the attack in a confusing manner as the black dragon which brutally murdered his family spared him as he was thrown by one of its wings into a flower patch... which in a sense gave him his name as he woke up there in a patch of tulips where he was found by a traveling band of mercenaries, who took him under his wing and trained him... Unlike most children he wasnt disgusted or outraged by the dragons murders but was in fact intrigued by the pure malevolence of the actions and became obsessed with the actions and knowledge of the particular dragon. After his encounter he was raised by the mercenary band (insert name here) who called him Jean-Jacques la Tulipe from where they found him. After years of training he was a dominant member of the group whos ability with the flamberge was unmatched, but he had developed strange powers that seemed to manifest since he had encountered the black dragon, he could effectively give the evil eye to opponents in battles which would jinx them and give him the upper hand. He mastered it over the years but after years of fighting used his money to start a flower shop and decided to go somewhere to garner information on this black dragon as he began to almost idolize its brutality. He finally came to the city where he had heard that information about the dragon was easily found or could be in the right places anyways.

Not that I am a respected member of these boards but from a fictional character point of view. Your charater doesn't flow well. It seems that you ahve taken three seperate themes and tried to put them together using a hammer.

Why a florist, other than the "totally not expected" thing? Does this character like flowers, did thier arise some morbid facination along with the facination with dragons.

Finally, the obsession with dragons. The way you tell it seems random and a reason to pursue dragon knowlegde and power. It seems to me, realize I know next to nothing about hexblades and how they attain powers. Here is an idea that I would use. Instead of a black dragon make it a green dragon and give it druid and wizard levels or something. Heck you could make it a half-dragon that lived in the nearbye forrest that was a hexblade/druid. The stroy could be along the lines of your parents thought you had an imaginary friend when really you did have a "friend" This person could have taught you hexblade lore and about flowers. Something that you were facsinated while young that you never grew out of.

If you would like to stick with the whole dying parents thing, then you can have them killed by brigands, or whatever and have the half dragon/dragon avenge them and protect and raise you.

Just my take on a neat concept. I hope I did not come across neagativly critical and i hope I have been able to help

First idea was good, honest.

Trying to add dragons makes it harder to believe, adding a mercenary band that calls him Tullipe (which is kindda funny because where I live that's a sausage company) is stretching it. Give him a french accent and I'll rip out my hair in big chunks...

First off, he will probably have to grow the flowers himself, since farmers usually grow food crops. Not much of a strain, just a small patch of ground, possibly a solarium, and a rank or two in craft (horticulture) . Then have him go in persuit of fertilizers, particularly exotic animal dung.

Eventually he will discover that dragon dung is the best fertilizer for his flowers and that can lead into the dragon desciple part. A few conversations with some dragons might develop into an arrangement to clean out their lairs.

I'd allow this in an absurd campaign...

"Hey guys! Remember that dragon we killed, well, I took some of its ****..."
"WHAT!?"
"It makes great fertilizer, you should try it!"
"If I cut off my ears and don't look at it, then it can't kill my brain..."
