ok, so i've got this character right who stole a sword from an ancient king, so now his soul gets attached to the character and my character is now this ancient king, however my character wants to get rid of the soul that's currently in there so he can have a permanent body. My dm was suggestion something along the lines of a mind battle. But how would one go about doing that? This is really an interesting topic, that i''d like your guys opinions on.

He was thinking something along the lines of a dice role of some sort, however I don't want it to be as black and white as that. You see if the king wants the body and the old character wants his body back, how do you go about doing something like this?

I'd say run a mental battle as though it were a physical one. Get both characters statted out, and then:
- Replace all uses of Strength (melee attack bonus, damage, etc) with Charisma (force of personality substitutes for force of body)
- Replace all uses of Dexterity (ranged attack bonus, AC, etc) with Intelligence (quickness of mind substitutes for quickness of body)
- Replace all uses of Constitution (HP bonus, etc) with Wisdom (fortitude of the soul substitutes for fortitude of body)

Then run the combat itself in a setting meant to represent both the original character and the king; for example, if the original character is a rogue, it might be a surreal cross between a castle and a maze of city alleys.

I'm lazy, so I'll leave to other posters for suggestions on how to integrate the other party members into all this.
