My characters seem to keep dying at a phenominal rate, I think my DM doesn't like me. Anyway, not the point. I'm wondering what the best fit for this group would be and would appriciate any ways for giving the character a reason for joining the group, something I've had troubles with in the past.

Eberron Camapaign Setting, Books able to use are core + all completes minus psionics, scoundrel, and adventurer

The current group ranges from lvl 6 to lvl 8 (some people coming every week, some not coming every week) and I have to start at lvl 6. The group is currently composed of a Warforged Fighter, a human Cleric who runs at the first sign of trouble and holds grudges (First character finished off a pirate he was attacking and the player refused to heal me for the rest of the campaign, resulting in my death), a shape changing ranger, and a warforged Artificer.

Some of my characters have been fairly easy to get into the campaign, like my fanatically devoted fighter/kensai silver flame member. Others... not so much. So, could someone give me a basic idea for a character that you think would go well with this group and give some sort of reasoning for him/her sticking with the group. I seem to have a lazy DM that won't set up anything that will 'set us up', so to speak.

Looks like the party has combat in hand with a 'forged and a (shifter?) ranger. Arcane magic has potential with the Artificer. Divine magic/healing comes from the ...wait- the PLAYER holds grudges. Not good. You'll need to be more self-reliant, if not self-healing. I suggest a Shifter Barbarian with lots of shifter feats would be a good way to go. 1 'forged + 1 'forged + 1 shifter + 1 shifter = stupid human cleric is on the outside looking in. Plus, it'd be fun to remind the cleric about their supposed superiority during the Chruch of the Silver Flame's inquisition/purge of lycanthropes, only to have TWO shifters in the party (this idea becomes less sarcastic and funny if the cleric is of some other order than the Silver Flame). You wouldn't even have to go totally nuts with accessing books- shifters have a lot of potential with just the few feats the Eberron Core book has in place- even more with a barbarian ragin' face. How does the character come into focus? Shifter re-union, or tribal problems. Maybe it's intrigued by seeing the party comprosed of clunky-clunky-fuzzy-fuzzy-squishy. Curisoity killed the cat- and this could be played out by the barbarian. Nothing is quite as fun as the first time you play a shifter barbarian (even at mid-level) and you start seeing the bonuses stack up on your opponent while you rage. Think of getting a high Constitution score, either with your ability, or by taking a shifter trait that enhances it. Shifters are nature-based, so having it track into the party or rescue it or be rescued by it all make relatively easy introductions.

Hmm... you could be the backup healer for both the WF and the fleshies if you become a bard.

If I'm correct, I think one of the Eberron books (either Magic of Eberron or ECS itself) has a bard/sorcerer/wizard spell that allows one to use something equivalent to a Cure XXXX Wounds for a WF but it is called Repair XXXX Wounds.

So if anything, have two of your spells be both Cure XXXX Wounds and Repair XXXX Wounds, and then you won't have to worry about dying, you won't have to worry about anyone being dead or incapacitated, you can buff up your party with singing, you have plenty of skills and somewhat of a good number of points, you can become the face of the party (if it's lacking one), and the most important thing: you have access to UMD!!

That right there would help a lot. If anything, go wizard or even bard/wizard. At least you can buff up people more and have magic handy.

I agree that with such a party, a bard would fit quite well. You can fit part of the rogue's roll as well as be a face for the party. And you are of course, self sufficient.

About how you enter the party? Well, maybe you work for one of the eberron newspapers (Sharn Inquisitive for example) and want to devote an issue to this group of adventurers to make them famous! Work towards their ego a lot and make them think you really adore them. That way, if you want to, you may be able to get a nice second agenda going as well (maybe a secret member of House Thuranni or Phiarlan) and you were actually send to spy on them by an opponent to assess if they are a threat.

You are not paid to betray them though and will even fight against the person who pays you when they come across him (don't want to blow your cover as a paid spy of course, there are always other customers as long as you stay unknown to be a spy) Just be sure you get your money first!

Man.. I wanna play this concept now hehe...
