I'm not a power-gamer, so much as I just like to have cool, unusual things to do. However, with Iz'kixk (IZ-uh kicks-ik), I wanted to go a little deeper, so I can have cool tricks AND a great character history. The game is set in an aquatic world, the game having been requested on RPoL. I have a great DM (I've played with him before) and the other player (two of us so far, a third later on) seems pretty good, too, though I haven't actually played with him yet. The Character(s) Iz'kixk (Izzy to his friends) is a 3rd level kobold rogue, using the sub-levels in Races of the Dragon and the variant racial features in teh web enhancement, the biggest being the Slight Build ability. This, combined with max Escape Artist ranks, means that the li'l bugger can squeeze into just about anywhere. Besides the obvious Weapon Finesse, I've given him Swim-by Attack, and the DM's modifications to the races gives him a 50ft swim speed. So, basically, he swims circles around the other guys, slipping in when there's a flanking opportunity. His biggest addition will be traps and stealth, especially with an extra +4 Hide from Slight Build. I know this isn't CharOp, but I figure knowing what he does and can do might help provide some ideas. The other character is an aquatic elf druid, with a shark companion. The third player hasn't shown up yet, but we think he'll be a fighter-type. What I've Got So Far The basic premise of the campaign will be aquatic elves against lizardfolk. There has been a racial war for a long, long time, and we'll be fighting on the side of the good-guys (the elves). Part of the world's history is that teh lizardfolk have either destroyed or enslaved the entire kobold race, to the point that Izzy will probably be the only kobold not under the thumb of the lizardfolk enemy. The idea is that he was captured in a raid against a lizardfolk lair that was encroaching on elven territory. Izzy's "job" among his slavers was to use his abnormally small size to get into various places and open the doors for the lizardfolk raiders that followed behind him. He had a watcher, a kobold that was truly loyal to the lizardfolk to make sure he didn't try and run away. The elven raid was successful, and Izzy was brought back in chains. After a kind elf took pity on the poor creature, and he showed a true tendency toward non-evilness, he was allowed to be set free, and trained to help the elves. He still uses his size and such to get into places, but now he does it willingly, and for the good-guys. I'm thinking one of his main (or only) reasons for fighting the lizardfolk is to free his fellow kobolds, who aren't naturally evil in this setting, just enslaved. What I Want I don't have much experience with deep, involved backstories and such, so any kinds of ideas or jsut some sort of inspiration for more would be nice. If the concept's good as is, I'd like to know that, too. Mostly, anything anybody sees that might make for a better concept, character, or whatever would be a great help. I'd also like some ideas for a kobold personality and outlook, as I've never played one before. |
