Across the dusty floor in a dive situated at the edge of a small town along the cost of the Lhazaar Sea, sits a lunatic, a genious and one of the best swordsman from the Principalities all the way to Karrnath. These titles belong to only one man, Jean Claude the wanderer. The man sits in silence his eyes focused on some distant star through the window, a smile slowly playing across his lips. No one knows much about him and he doesn't speak much about himself and he seems strangely impervious to attempts to magically pry at his mind. This leaves much of his history open to speculation. Many stories have been told about his origins, most of them portray him as the victim of some great tradgedy, some say that he is a war orphan from the Last War, others say he watched his family die in the horrendous explosion of Cyre, however the truth is worse than any tale...

Maxmillion DaVerde grew up the son of a wealthy Karrnathi family during the Last War. When he came of age his family began taking steps to ensure that he would not have to serve in the military and to shield him from the war as much as possible. Maxmillion however, had different thoughts he wanted to join the army of Karrnath and take his place defending his homeland. He proved to be rather stubborn on this issue and when his family could not dissuade him they disinheritted him. He left the family estate and enrolled in the army academy at Rekkenmark. He found himself to be a natural talent at the art of swordplay and also became a brilliant tactitian although he never saw any combat (it seemed his family cared enough about him to keep him out of any true peril), he also became a master of the game known as Kings Court, a strategy game requiring great care and skill. He often would play tavern patrons for coins or drinks and he became almost unbeatable. However he would meet his match when he was challenged by a woman by the name of Claira Theay, a wizard in training. The match ended quickly and the two became friends, and eventually lovers. Claira was a firm believer in the right of all creatures to life and freedom. The two eventually married, however as part of her vow Claira made Maxmillion promise never to take the life of any sentient being. The ceremony was a quiet one as neither of them had any family, so it was attended by a few mutual friends. Though not a lavish or decorative affair Maxmillion and Claira were both very happy none the less, for once it seemed they had both found something in their lives of true value. However this happy occasion would not last. That night a Glabrezu prince who enjoyed kidnapping young maidens from across Khorvaire and forcing them to do his bidding, revealed himself to the couple and kidnapped Claira. Maxmillion tried to defend her from the demon, however it was much too powerful and quickly overcame him. Maxmillion awoke the next morning in a daze, without his beloved. He fled quickly and searched for her for days. Fearing that the demon may come back to finish him off he adopted an assumed name, Jean Claude and still searches for his beloved...

The man stands up now and puts on his hat, his sort of trademark a black wide brimmed hat trimmed with green velvet. He wears black studded leather with the same green trim and a green cape is clasped around the collar of it. His equipment isn't fancy but it is well maintained and he projects a no nonsense attitude. Jean Claude carries many weapons and no one is sure just how many or what kind he has, however his most famous are his dual rapiers. He wields them with uncanny grace, however what is most interesting about his style is that he has never killed a soul, in fact he rarely even draws blood from his enemies. Although he has garnered the reputation of a bandit and a thief, Jean Claude is neither. He is a kind soul willing to do anything to save the life of an innocent or make the life of others easier. Despite his usually optimistic mood and high intensity life style Jean Claude seems to be in pain, a kind of pain that comes from scars that will never heal completely. He smiles often, however he rarely shows true, deep down happiness. He has suffered great tradgedies, however he has never strayed from his path of benevolence, has never once killed a sentient creature and, he has never once strayed from his search for his beloved.

This is my first really in depth character concept that I have developed in awhile and I would love any input that you guys have on it. The character is from an Eberron campaign I have been playing in for a little while and I really liked the way he has turned out.

Great idea. I like it. When reading it, I puzzled for a while over the change from Jean to Maxmillion, but all was clear in the end. Should you pass this description on to your fellow players/DM, then you may want to point out the connection earlier. Anyway, nice writing, and a good concept. Best of luck with it...

Well thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it. In the campaign the players don't have much of an idea about his past, although my DM has come up with a really cool idea. He is dolling out little pieces of it every other adventure or so to different characters, so it should be interesting to watch that play out. I was able to explain it pretty clearly to my DM, I just chose the split time format because I thought it would make for some nice writing.
