Hi, I´m new in this forum. I´m from argentina. Please excuse if i have any tiping problems, or perhaps any missdirection with terms, i don´t ussually post in english spoken forums...
Well, getting to the point. I´ve been DM for almost 8 years, and now I´m retired for a moment to become a "strange characters" player.
I´m having some problems because of my style of characters, I like my character to have great magic and awesome meelee fighting habilities.
THE problem comes with this character, my favourite, Kaede Silverwing. He´s an Aasimar, with a tragic background. He´s an orfan who was abandonned when just a baby in a church in Rashemen. he fought in Mulhorand leading many battles, he obtained high rank, but that was not his objective. He retired (scaped really) when he realized it.
Before creating the character i read "Champions of Valor". I loved the Knight of the weave prestigeclass and the organization at his back. The DM and myself talked about this character, and we wanted to make a direct relation with one of the Guardians of The Weave authorityes, and we dicided that Kaede was rised in a church in Rashemen by Havarra Sorokevka, long ago, before becoming such a prestigious person. Kaede left Rashemen looking for his own place in world, and in his travel knew a female half-elf named Selene, and entabled a very close relationship. Selene got killed when they got across Unther, in middle of battle between Unther and Mulhorand, in untherians hands. Kaede seeked for revenge. Then he realized that it wasn´t war and death his destiny, when he realized all the suffering he made himself.
So he run away the frontlines of battle and seeked Havarra for some sort of spiritual directions. When he finded her, she offered him to be one of the guardians of the weave, and told him to seek his own forgiveness.
Kaede joined a party and started seeking his new objective.

Today Kaede Silverwing is a male Aasimar LG Sorcerer lvl6/Knight of the weave lvl2/Fighter lvl1/Eldricht Knight 3. A really multiclassed character. He also took the Celestial bloodline feat, and the Outsider wings feat. He also attained all the prerequisits to get the Whirlwind attack feat and his last feat was Extend Spell. One of his first feats was Leadership, he sacrificed having a familiar to get this feat instead, and the DM was really good at letting me take the celestial bloodline as a regional free feat.

NOW, the problem comes that i read Tome of Battle. This character is really a rare character, it´s not really a standart character. I want him to take levels in Swordsage or Warblade and become a Jade Phoenix Mage. The idea of knowing his past lives really gives some extra emotion, to me and also the DM. This may give Kaede his real meaning in this world!

¿Is it possible to Kaede to take one of this classes without the "teachings" of any master? I´m having this problem and the DM said, "¿Why not asking in wizards forum?"

I also want to say one thing more. Kaede become Lawfull Good, but he wasn´t like that at the begining...

As you can see, this character is really great for me. I took his name as my nick to enter to this forum...

Thanks to all, i don´t really know if this is the exact place to make this question... if not make me know.

Dunno why you'd post that here, but the short answer is that the only time any character would need training to enter any class is when the DM says so, or when the class states in its requirements that you have to be trained.

Simple answer: You can take levels of Warblade or Swordsage without any sort of teacher, but to take a level of Jade Phoenix Mage, you need to find another Jade Phoenix Mage (of 6th class level or higher).

I'm going to move this over to Character Development, seems this fits in better there. Good luck!

This is a much better forum. :P Well, for this question it is. Usually I consider the ToB classes to require some form of practical training. That is not to say that it is strictly required however.

In the case of your character with such a close tie to the weave you should look to that as a source of inspiration. You are blending the weave with your swordplay already. Perhaps (especially if your lawful) you have begun to look for new practices which allow you to do so in a more regulated manner. If your not lawful you may be looking for a more fluid style.

If I were in your place I'd use my leadership feat to have my cohort looking to follow my style of combat. In attempting to teach him I would learn much myslef as well and so (with the DMs permision of course) become one of the founding masters of the ToB styles. This works nicely if your DM wants to decide to use ToB but doesn't know how to establish it into his campaign. He can have other aspiring masters show up then and if you choose to work with them you may eventually establish these as true fighting styles.
