Hey there, I am creating a character for a "New World" type campaign, sort of like people leaving the U.K. for the U.S.A. Anyways, I wanted to know what you guys thought of what I have whipped up here.

Name: Kaulter Wellwright
Age: 53
Race:Human
Height: 5'7
Weight:140
Chaotic Good

The Wellwright family has a long line of rangers that were responsible for finding promising well locations and building them. They are also noted of being excellent body guards and guides. The family is a stand alone party, sometimes hired by the government and villages for their services. When the government had requested the Wellwrights to set up and execute an ambush on a well known rebel group, they refused. Not taking no as an answer, the government had labeled the Wellwrights as traitors to the state and set out bounties for anyone with the name. Kaulter is one of the older members of the family and was a part of their refusal to the throne. Immediately dispersing and disappearing into the countryside to avoid capture, Kaulter and many others had abandoned the country all together. Finding a ship headed to the New World, Kaulter decides it's a good place to seek refuge, wondering when he'd be able to see his kinsmen
again.

Enjoying simple humor, he will make a lot of light hearted jokes, or a scathing remark when annoyed. Using his age as an excuse, he can act deranged or senile to bypass confrontation. A caring man, he will come to the aide of those who need it, even if he has to break some rules to do so. He might have lost some of his resilience with his age,but that won't stop this headstrong ranger of Wellwright from doing what he wants.

Guh, I'm sorry, I had misunderstood as to what I was supposed to post in this forum. For those who read it before, thanks. I cut out the irrelevant material so all that is left is the back story.

53 is pretty old. what level is he?

as part of such a large-sounding family, does he himself have a wife and/or any children?

if not, why not? is he a ....(w/e the male version of widower is) or has he been so busy surviving & working for the good of the greater family that he never found time?

and even if he has no direct family, he certainly has relations with the extended family. does he have any nieces/nephews that he looks upon almost as his own? does he have a good relationship with his brothers/sisters, or he only tolerate them out of a tradition of familial unity?

does he have any hobbies? wood carving? hunting? smoking?

what has he achieved in his life? is there anything he's particularly proud of? was he adventurous in his youth, or has he lived a quiet life up to this point, busying himself with well finding/making?

great start, but it could use a little more fatty meat to round it out:)

Those are fantastic questions, that'll help me a lot in painting a mental aspect.

He's level 5, what is a proper age to have that? Also he is going to have Character flaw Vulnerable, how would one include that as a roleplaying trait?

level 5's fine for that age. it would be stretching it if he were level 2, maybe even 3, but 4 or 5 is definitely good.

vulnerable I'd imagine as either somewhat clumsy, untrained with a weapon, or somewhat berserk in battle.

for a character like this, it doesnt seem like any of those quite work....maybe a variant on the "berserk" idea, where he's so focused on taking down his enemies, he doesnt pay proper attention to defending himself?

I have since been warned that I'm not allowed to have a flaw, haha, so that's out.

As for habits and hobbies, he whittle when he is bored, or to insult someone as not worth his time/attention. He is calm and cool in most situations, even when faced with the probability of being caught by the old country's authorities. Due to his training, he learned to separate, surround, and conquer as a group of archers. When he sees an enemy he says one or two words and disappears to get a vantage point. If you notice he's gone, that could mean someone is near.

Would whittling be done with a dagger or an even smaller knife? Perhaps he should also be able to make arrows. Hell, maybe he's even making arrows when he is whittling? Just a thought.

it could be done with a dagger or another knife. depending on how much of a hardcore outdoorsman he is, it could be the same knife he uses for skinning and such. a dagger may be a more practical approach, in that it gives him a backup weapon. even if he has a sword, it can never hurt to have a dagger concealed on you.

I think the arrow thing is a great idea- make your flavor work for your character! it adds depth, and accomplishes something helpful.

Seems that Dagger is in then. What sort of symbol could be used to represent the Wellwright name? I know the obvious choice is a picture of a well or something, but I don't want it just to be a stone tube like a prehistoric Mario.

mmm....maybe a bucket full of water?

a flowing river or something of that sort would be a stretch, but it could fit.

maybe a divining rod? I think they used those to locate water....

I dunno, you really dug your own hole on that one:rimshot:

then again, what's wrong with prehistoric mario?:P

Perhaps it could be like an arrow piercing a raincloud, to represent our traits of providing fertility and protection?
