Keeper of the Universal Balance = what deity ? [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-14-04, 01:06 AM My Character is a psywarrior, grossly unschooled in the ways of the world and of Neutral Evil alignment. He died recently, and came back, which forced upon him the realisation of the grander scheme of things.

Thus, he's had an epiphany, and perceives himself now as alien from his surroudings for a good reason: his hidden purpose in life as always been to balance good and evil, equalize it if you will, maintening the Universal Balance at all costs. No less.

Problem is, which deity in your opinion promotes this type of energical devotion ? (Faêrunian or other)

05-14-04, 04:47 AM Obad Hai is certainly one for preserving balance, although this choice may be a little bit too "nature-based" for your character. An alternative could be Boccob.

Of course, this depends on using Greyhawk (base D&D) deities. Faerûn will be somewhat different. Another campaign setting will be different again.

One trick you can use is to find a website with all the gods (for example, Powers of Greyhawk (http://members.tripod.com/dndrealmsofadventure/religions_of_the_flanaess.htm)) and search for terms like "balance", "maintain", etc.

That's exactly what I did though, based upon their portfolios, I scanned my Faiths and Pantheons from cover to cover, trying to discern which deity most closely ressembles what I'm looking for. My search yielded 2 probable results: Grumbar and Sylvanus. Although the former promotes stability out of lack of energy to change anything hehe and the latter loves hugging trees!

In the Realms, the god that comes closest to my character's beliefs is an overgod actually: Ao.

An Ao worshiper... that's just plain silly :rolleyes:.

05-15-04, 03:55 AM I'd say Kelemvor, but your char's whole coming back from the dead thing goes against his dogma. unless, of course, it wasnt your char's "appointed" time and his death was random and chaotic.

In death, all is equal. Kill everything! :D

your suggestion finalized my decision about this char's evolution:

Keep an open mind.

Meaning, if every he stumbles into Mala, Kelemvor, Grumbar, Oghma, these religions might pique his interest. If he never encounters anything about these religions, I'll fall back on plan B, which is the topic of this thread : Deimos Vex, the Doomed Soul and keeper of the Universal Balance. :)
