| Komodo01-14-08, 12:18 PM | So I just started playing in an Iron Heroes campaign (low magic, high adventure for those unaware) and it's sort of horror themed. My character is something I've wanted to do for a long time and is essentially an exiled knight with an evil split personality that arises and takes control from time to time, at the DM's discretion. He quests and adventures in an attempt to atone for misdeeds that were commited while the evil personality was dominant and his exile is mostly self-imposed. We're only level 2, so I'm currently an armiger/berserker (equivalent to a knight/barbarian; there's no concrete alignment system in IH), though since I'm the group's designated tank, the ratio will shift more toward armiger as I go up in level. Anyway, I don't really have a hard time roleplaying as the knight in shining armor, but when it comes time to be evil, I'm not entirely sure what to do. I've played in a few evil campaigns in my time, but usually as a rogue or a caster. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can make it clear that I'm really an evil guy and not just particularly mean every so often? The DM has disallowed explicit inter-party violence, so I can't just go around killing my teammates, though I do have a "blind rage" ability that functions similar to a Frenzied Berserker in that I attack a random target that I threaten when it's turned on. PS: the character concept is in part based on the song "A Soul Divided" by Dark Empire. You can listen to it at www.myspace.com/darkempireband if you're interested. It's pretty metal. |

Or when you just finished the last foe in some battle, keep on bashing his corpse until only a pulp remains, or one of your friends stop you from doing this. As a knight, you will probably be kind and patient with your allies, but as the berseker you might suddenly be rude and mean, perhaps even revealing secret things a friend told you. If there is a female character in the group, you could be usually chivalrous with her, but suddenly try to force her as the berseker... Does this berseker actually has a personal goal, beside giving an hard time to the knight? |

Torture small animals; eat your food raw and bloody; use the 'knight' persona to trick your enemies (and your allies) into thinking you'll fight fair; use barbed or serrated weapons if you have the option; fight dirty; cuss vilely and often; be viciously sarcastic; be mean or abusive to children; use narcotics and lace them into your party's food. The question isn't what you can do but how vile you want to go. You could be a cannibal and a child molester, or you could kick kittens and steal from your party--both evil, but very different levels. I don't recommend trying to rape a PC. This can be really traumatic to the player, so if you want to do that (and it would certainly be a way to demonstrate your evilness), use an NPC and check with the DM first. |

I agree that it would be a good idea to come up with some sort of goal for the evil side, as he's most certainly not interested in redemption or atonement. I'll discuss possibilities with my DM. I'm currently wielding a bastard sword because I can drop my shield and go 2H when appropriate (i.e. during a rage), but I like the barbed/serrated suggestion. Since I spent a feat, though, what I may do is have the dark side take some time to carve serration into the sword next time he's in control, much to the chagrin of the knightly half. |
| Red_Wizards_Rock01-20-08, 10:49 PM | When a strainful situation happens roll a will save for your evil personality to come out, and vice versa when it is time to go back to good. Be calculating not blood thirst. Hacking at a corpse even past dead isn't evil it's lame and insane while you might say "I am insane" Truth is you aren't you just have two personalities with different goals and ideas. Have a character sheet for each with each a class that they would be. When one is active he gets all the exp and the dorment one gets half the exp. although don't min. max it otherwise you'll kill yourself trying to be the Good Knight and the Evil Mad Wizard. I've done this before if you actually are interested in me finishing just say so it's pretty indepth. I did Good Wizard/Evil Rogue. |
