| NerdNumber102-09-07, 01:13 AM | I was thinking of playing a kobold battle sorceror. Does anyone have experience in this field. I am using the web enhancement for varient kobolds. I think I will give him a light crossbow, light pick (weapon finnesed, of course), a free club (combined with my claws, I'll have slashing, bludgening, and pircing), and a free, weightless sling tied on his upperarm (for those locked up without weapons times). I want to use some sort of dragon heritage, like bloodline rules, the dragonwrought feat, or both. One personality quirk is his annoyance from "insane, genicidal palidens" who would most likely attack him even though he is CN. His role would be a dexterious fighter/ranged fighter/arcane blaster. He can also be a go between for talking with kobolds (who may not like normal adventurers that kill them so much), and a good tunnel fighter (the small ones that kobolds like to trap PCs in). Any tips for playing? Should I multi-class, etc.? (This thread is also posted here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=11434315#post11434315)) |

All I can say is as a small guy you could go with Big spells to compensate. Like Fire brand and chain lightning etc etc. Then have a cocky little guy who has a chip on his shoulder. The other option is to build on the kobold natural sneakyness and go with spells that confuse and trick opp. Or as a third option go with rays pick up some rogue and do sneak attack magic. |

I was leaning towards a kobold leader sending this developing, dragonwrought sorcerer (which might become powerful enough to unseat him) on a quest of indeterminent time to train himself alone. |
| trickydevl66602-10-07, 01:13 PM | Alright... well the whole exiled thing probably wouldn't work out so well... The Kobold leader tends to be more of an accountant type person that manages day to day work and decides how they are going to spend money, and how that money is to be distributive amongst the other kobolds... stuff like that... they also tend to be sorcerors.... Because sorcerory is such a natural part of their life, they tend to treat it with more reverance than anything else. Races of dragon says how unlike learning through trial and error, kobolds are taught how to use their magic. Also since your dragonwrought, what dragon are you descended from? That could help build your background. Maybe being dragonwrought isn't such an uncommon thing your your kobold's tribe. Kobolds tend to make vows to sorcerory when they are being taught by the other sorcerors of their tribe, and they are taught to go to one of their 4 divisions of magic (Augmenting, Offensive, Pragmatic, Preemptive) Your character would probably be offensive. So.... how about in order to be fully iniated into the order of sorcerors in your tribe, you have to go on a quest of some sort. Like a coming of age ritual, there is no set time period, you just know when you have learned enough. Maybe part of it is to gain knowledge of the outside world and once you have learned something truly important you can come back. |
| NerdNumber102-10-07, 01:57 PM | Maybe a self-induced exile to become stronger to better serve the group. I'm not sure which dragon I'd be descended from (or even a good name). My concept is of a quietly superior kobold that will be more often annoyed than angry or scared at opponents. He will attempt diplomancy or intimination (Dragonwrought kobolds are dragons, so alter self could mean a medium dragon comming from the simple kobold) before combat. Paliden: Repent now evil kobold, for today you die! Kobold: Damn genocidal palidens, always yelling about their "holy cause." *Waves hand and paliden falls unconcious.* I wonder how much I can get for that sword. *Grabs the sword and starts to walk away, pauses, turns around and prestidigitations the palidens armor, turning it hot pink.* |
