| KyussWren08-01-06, 08:50 PM | As you can see, I do have a start on his backstory, as well as his clergy, God, and some of the elements in his backstory. This is the first time I've written one of these, and I figure some Q&A would be good. Any suggestions on just about anything welcome. TIA Logh Solace was born as the heir to a wealthy noble family from the (X PRovince), and lived the first year of his life there. After his family was attacked from a nearby vampire coven, he was kidnapped and kept as a pet by Vamipress, Melora Beckenhart, for 6 years until she sold him to the Vampire Circus to be a stable boy. Logh worked in the circus stables for two years rather uneventfully. One day in the third year of working there, a prized avian fell from its perch and broke its neck. Fearing reprocussions Logh picked up the avian and willed it to be healed. The avian perked up and flew back to its perch. Another employee that was watching reported it to the ringmaster. Upon questioning Logh, the Ringmaster senses some potential in the boy. The ringmaster contacts a friend who runs a coven of vampire priests and sends Logh there to be trained as a cleric. Upon being initiated into the Priesthood of Atok'ma Rol, the vampire god, Logh was gifted with the implements of the priesthood. Included in these is the Gauntlet of Atok'ma Rol, which is a magical vampiric healing capacitor which after draining the life energy of a living creature, stores that energy which can later be used to heal others. Also included in these implements are a Steel gorget bearing the insignia of Atok'ma Rol, and a minor vampiric mace, acts as a +1 mace which restores 1 hp to the weilder every time it deals damage. Futher vestiments and implements of the priesthood are revealed as the initiate increases in rank. Priesthood of Atok'ma Rol: The Priesthood was actually established 409 years before, rather farcically as a death cult worshiping a false god. The priesthood soon lost support after their followers lost interest in their chicanery. Ironically, a being of the same name ascended to godhood 50 years after that and visited the remaining priesthood. The God had a deep affinity for vampires and became the vampire's patron God. (God is Lawful Evil) It was also decided that the priesthood should remain as humans, and the occassional lich, for such efforts that must be carried out during the day. Vampire Circus: The Vampire Circus was established some 200 years ago. It is your standard circus with a few exceptions. Such as being ran by Vampires, shows only being put on at night, the animal stock consisting mainly of magical and fiendish creatures. |

What was the Circus like for them? Fond memories? Nightmarish? Do they stay with their religion and the practice thereof out of love, hate, or fear? Mere power-hunger, or true belief that their way is the right way? It might lead to filling out more of a story, and it would give you more of a feel to how they'd react to things, I think. Interesting so far, though! |
| KyussWren08-02-06, 04:32 AM | Thanks Liachami. So I'm still working on what sort of stuff would have been in the vampire circus, thinking about maybe throwing in something about him almost being eaten by one of the beasts or something, but I honestly have no clue what sort of stuff would have been in there. I definately need to flesh out the Vampire Circus a little bit, I only have like three lines. And here is an updated background, let me know what you can think, or if you have ANY advice or ideas on how I could flesh it out more. Begin Character Background Logh Solace was born as the heir to a wealthy noble family from the (X Province), and lived the first year of his life there. After his family was attacked from a nearby vampire coven, he was kidnapped and kept as a pet by Vamipress, Melora Beckenhart, for 6 years until she sold him to the Vampire Circus to be a stable boy. During those 6 years Logh was taught Common and Vampiric by Melora and her entourage. Logh worked in the circus stables for two years rather uneventfully. The circus was a completely different experience than being a Vampire's young pet. Cloths were a new experience for Logh. Due to the uncanny nature of the animals there, Logh had to receive instruction in handling the animals so that he would be able to feed and clean them without being eaten. (+5 ranks in Handle Animal) During his time at the circus, he was attended to by The Bearded Elf, Huor Tasardur, and his Dwarven wife Valiess Dolsten Tasardur (Translated as Dragonmother Axetower). Logh came to look at Huor as a sort of father figure, and was looked upon fondly by him and his wife. One day in the third year of working there, a prized avian fell from its perch and broke its neck. Fearing repercussions Logh picked up the avian and willed it to be healed. The avian perked up and flew back to its perch. Huor was watching reported it to the Ringmaster, Viontik Dreadice. Upon questioning Logh, Viontik senses some potential in the boy, and knows that he would go far in the clergy. Viontik contacts a friend who runs a coven of vampire priests and sends Logh there to be trained as a cleric.During the first three years there, Logh made few friends, while making one or two pesky enemies. Among those enemies was the son of the high priest of the primary fane of the church, Gilsher Waydolsson. While Logh did spend most of his time away from the duties of an acolyte studying in the fane's extensive library, quickly becoming proficient in Elven, Draconic, Celestial, Infernal, Abyssal, and Avian languages. He also studied several texts on spells, spell casting, brewing, art. Logh soon surpassed even some 5th year acolytes in knowledge with his relentless studying. The only thorn in his side during his endless hours of studying was Gilsher, whose arrogance and sloth perturbed Logh. Gilsher's constant badgering of Logh and his witless humor drove Logh to anger one day while studying. Logh, who was ignorant of the boy's relation to Belgardin Waydolsson, rearranged the boy's face. Quite literally. Gilsher's nose was squarely in the middle of his forehead when Logh was done with him. It took several of the clergy two weeks to repair what Logh had done. When asked how he did it, Logh's only reply was "How does the rain fall?" Gilsher did not bother Logh much after that, but did despise him very much. Gilsher is one year younger than Logh. After his first three years there, it was deemed that Logh was ready to start combat drills. Logh's talents with a mace seemed prodigious against the inanimate training dummies. After he had began his combat drills, his interest in reading strayed away from language and brewing, and he instead started in on the rather comprehensive section on combat and warfare. Among some of his favorites were Moon Ni's "Music of the Battlefield", and Rotwatcher Kraugug's "101 ways to bash people with a Mace". In his last two years as an acolyte, Logh excelled in all his classes, Rites and Rituals, Advanced Spell casting, Sparring. Also included in these implements are a Steel gorget bearing the insignia of Atok'ma Rol, and a minor vampiric mace, acts as a +1 mace which restores 1 hp to the wielder every time it deals damage. Further vestments and implements of the priesthood are revealed as the initiate increases in rank. (God is Lawful Evil) It was also decided that the priesthood should remain as humans, and the occasional lich, for such efforts that must be carried out during the day. Requests for assistance from the church, with the exception of food, shelter, amenities, or something less than 100 GP in value are taken to a committee. The members and size of the committee are chosen differently for different types of requests and their urgency. Such as, the requests for assistance in making magical or wondrous items may go to a group of clerics which specialize in it, while a request for assistance in fighting the hordes of the Abyss may go as far as the High Council of Fanes. In order to cut down on the number of unnecessary or objectionable requests, the committee can for whatever reason it desires deny the request, and if the petitioner desires to take the matter farther than that, the committee may designate a champion to resolve the issue in trial by combat. Also, if the priest making such a requests has enemies within the fane, those enemies can openly object as a group to the request, and then champion one of the objectioners to resolve their objection with the priest making the request by combat. Every decade, the top three hundred clerics of the order are invited to a holy site in the mountain. Upon reaching the site, the clergy begins summoning their God. Participating in this ritual is one of the greatest honors of the order. The ritual takes three days, and is always finished on the third day at the stroke of midnight. When Atok'ma Rol arrives, he casts Bountiful Heroes' Feast (See Heroes' Feast, 6TH level cleric or bard spell, except this one is 9th level, the feast is enough to last 3 hours, and bountiful enough to feed 300 people + the caster, and instead of granting 1d8 temporary hit points, halts aging for 1d3+1 (2-4 years). The experience penalty for non-deified casters is 20,000 exp though, and can only be cast once every three years regardless of if the caster is deified.) During the feast, matters of urgency from the clergy are discussed, and then the God hands down their marching orders for the next decade. Vampire Circus: The Vampire Circus was established some 200 years ago. It is your standard circus with a few exceptions. Such as being ran by Vampires, shows only being put on at night, the animal stock consisting mainly of magical and fiendish creatures. End Character Background |
| KyussWren08-04-06, 01:41 PM | Still trying to figure out how to populate the creature stock of the Vampire Circus. Any suggestions on the magical creatures? They say they have an invisible stalker, but nobody has ever seen it :P |
| KyussWren08-04-06, 04:20 PM | Atok'ma Rol: Not much is known about the origins of Atok'ma Rol. It appears that he ascended to Godhood approxamently 350 years earlier. His reasoning for becoming the patron god of Vampires is unknown. What is known is that he wants to wrest control of the abyss and nine hells from the demons and devils that control it. Why he wants to do this is unknown, but it is generally assumed that he just wants to do it because he believes that he is more evil than the current rulers of that realm, and thusly more fit to rule it. He has been at it for several hundred years, and has not gotten far in his attempts to dominate those planes. He did somehow manage to infest the third hell with several thousand celestial serpents. Nobody knows how he did that for certain. Because of the inherit nature of his conflict with demons and devils, he has provided materials to his followers so that they may learn how to fight those fiendish creatures. (+2 bonus on spell DC against evil outsiders for those that have studied those materials for three weeks?) Atok'ma Rol also has some uneasy alliances with the other God against the abyss and nine hells. (Could somebody point me in the direction of Gods that would be against those entities so that I could include a sentence here detailing which Gods those are). His logic was that he had no prefence to fight Gods once he had achieved his Godhood, and sought out those God that have been fighting those forces. Due to the nature of these alliances, the Followers of Atok'ma Rol may channel positive or negative energy. |
| KyussWren08-05-06, 02:42 AM | Right, can anybody think of anything else that I might need for my backstory? Anything that unbalances gameplay at all? The Story So Far: Logh was sent to investigate a job posting that was dealing with planar rifts. Brave travelers you are invited to come train and tryout to become body guards and traveling companions while I research planner rifts. The job will be dangerous so please only the most proficient and serious need apply. The meeting place shall be the Sweaty Dog Tavern in Frundoll Meet at the Tavern between the 20th and the 30th of October. When you arrive at the Tavern ask for Goramus Stonesledge Should you be selected for training food and lodging will be paid for during the Three month training. After the training you and the other selected people will split into equal groups to run a task for me to assure your worth. Should your group complete this task you will be hired on as body guards. Pay shall be all food and lodging necsities as well as upkeeps and 20 gold peices per month. If you are under equiped equipment may be provided. Upon reaching contact with that employer, Logh was sent to undertake training at a predetermined location. The location was the home of Breetai, a born Lycanthrope Werebear Druid. The task was to clear out some Grimlocks from the cave that he inhabits. Upon a rather unfortunate encounter with one of the grimlocks, Logh was taken captive, and after a day of captivity Logh was forced to work in excavating for the Grimlocks and their Medusa Master. While the Medusa was around Logh and yelling at him, Logh discerned her direction (with a listen check) and tossed the Pickaxe he was using to excavate at her. It hit her in the head and she was knocked out by the resulting blow from the pickaxe, and Logh used his gauntlet to, unbeknownst to him, drain the medusa's soul. After that point, the Grimlocks looked upon him as their leader. Logh used this to his advantage and took their remaining captives as his, along with any Grimlocks that were willing to follow him, to the meeting point with Breetai and his Dwarven companion. Upon meeting them, Breetai's dwarven companion asked why the people and grimlocks were in chains, to which Logh responded, "So they won't get lost". After some bickering between Breetai and his dwarven companion, the final training test was put forth. Slay a black dragon which has been ravaging a nearby town. Along with his newly found Warmage companion, Logh enticed a drunken halfling into believing that he was a dragon slayer, and loading him up with poison which would be lethal to a creature of that size. Though that ploy failed, Logh and his party had no trouble taking down the young black dragon. Upon reaching Breetai's lair once again, Hughs was waiting for them. He had with him a deck of many things, which he asked the party to draw from in order to test their mettle. Logh chose to draw two cards, the Sun and the Visier. Logh's warmage companion drew the Visier and the Skull. The deaths were easily dispatched by the party. (Plane Shifted them to another plane, the plane of fire for the drawer, and the plane of boredom for Logh's. Rule check, is that even viable? or was the DM just being nice?) Breetai's dwarven companion was dispatched in this fight. Though he was raised from the dead by Logh, he chose to go back to the dwarven keep he came from. After that, the party went to go deal with a demonic scouting party. During the short battle with the demon scouts several blue energy bolts struck the demons. After the battle, Logh summoned a Heroes' Feast to celebrate his victory over the demons. During his feasting, an odd human came from the woods and sat at the table and began to help himself to the food. Though Logh didn't really mind as there was enough food to go around, Logh did ask the newcomer one question. "Who in the nine hells are you?" To which the newcomer answered, some unpronouncable name. Logh, though extremely gifted with tounges, did not feel like dicerning the Human's name, so made the decreee, "I think I'll just call you Bob." After some arguing with Bob, Logh asked the human what he could do for him and his companions. The human responded by standing and summoning a blue energy bolt, then firing the bolt in the direction of Logh's warmage companion. Logh responded immediately to this by using his divine infulence to will the human dead (cast slay living, 5th level cleric spell). Though Bob was still standing after this, Breetai almost immediately restrained him while in the form of a bear (druid ability Wild Form). Breetai kept Bob restrained through the night while Logh and his warmage companion slept. Upon waking and going to check on them, Logh found that Bob had made some knik-knaks out of the grass and flowers around the area which he was restrained. Bob then passed out from exhaustion, and Breetai did the same. Logh took the opportunity to fetch some manacles that were in Breetai's cave, which had been left over from the freeing of the slaves earlier and use them to restrain the sleeping Bob, and then chained him to a tree. What adventures will our hero's find next? |
