| Ricohard_Draconis04-18-05, 07:28 PM | Okay i have a lvl 14 psion/illithid slayer killoren character. other than the background requirement for being an illithid slayer that he has previousely killed an ilithid. I'm thinking that he would have spent a while off world, but really i have no idea about a background for him. Campaign world background: The country has been through several years of war, then rulership by totalitarian generals and wizards who were defeated by the original party members (basically the campaign has been going so long the only 'surviving' (as in the player is still there) party member is Morgan Truefaith, a rather strange paladin.) The Kingdom has since been run by a female Half gold dragon who is the parties patron. She was never meant to be queen, she was meant to be an advisor, however she is the only still liveing member of the royal family. the party presently works for her. The only other known continent known was devistated by magic war many years ago (basically an excuse for the Dm to go to town with the pseudonatural template and such) There is also some transplanar plot going on involving seals, however this has been kept sketchy, at least one of these seals appeared in ravenloft (don't ask, as we don't know what happened) and two have been opened on this world, we believe that there are nine of them but we're not sure. Something strange is going on with the illithid on this world, they seem to be working wth driders, although haveing talked with the GM this is only on this plane. So i'm looking for a background as a sort of outsider not sure what the planes are exactly in this campaign, will ask and post it up as soon as i can. any ideas? |

Firstly, the cosmology I am using is the AD&D Planescape cosmology as I am not very keen on the 3rd ed version. I shall bring a book back with me that will explain everything you need to know. Secondly, the Illithid is not working with driders. He is working with drow, the driders work for them. Finally, three seals have been broken. One on the world you are on, one in Ravenloft and one in Faerun, as for the number, you are correct in the party thinks 9. |

| Ricohard_Draconis04-20-05, 04:10 PM | An La 0 fey race from Races of the wild They have three facets which they can switch between the only one i can remember off hand is the Destroyer which gives them a smite attack against enemies of nature, i believe one of the others grants them a bonus on certain knowledge checks and i have no ideas about the third. a picture of them (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/row_gallery/86635.jpg) |
| Morka04-21-05, 08:09 AM | If I understand well, Killoren live in the forest, and usually, illithid live in the underdark. Did Illithids attack the nature? Or did some illithids attacked the nature? Perhaps some psionic experimentation went wrong, creating a chasm in the forest were your killoren is living. Falling in the chasm, along with many other feys/animals/nature creatures, your character was one of the few to survive, but only to be enslaved by the illithids. A few years later, another strange experimentation went wrong, creating another explosion, and freeing your character and a few other slaves. You wanted to get back to your forest, but you feel stained by your contact with the illithid. The only way to clean this stain is to kill some illithids. In fact, many illithids. |
| Ricohard_Draconis04-21-05, 03:22 PM | well a couple of ideas that have been bubbling in my brain which i'll throw out: 1) abberations are anti-nature in their very make up, so perhaps the illithid hatred is an extension of the destroyer aspect 2) if i remember correctly, the common conception is that illitid come from the future, a world with no sun, (don't own LoM and don't know how much of it would be real in this campaign) so perhaps its an attempt to stop that from coming to pass, since all nature is eventually reliant on the sun. actually number 2 seems a good starting point. Morka: i don't think the whole escaped slave think quite works, maybe if i'd gone wilder rather than psion. |
| Ashianyl04-23-05, 04:43 AM | I didn't read the whole Killoren stat, but if memory serves me, Killorens are nature's answer to the aggressive humanoids. They were recently born and nurtured to maturity with the necessary knowledge to both learn and understand humanoids and oppose them if necessary in defense of nature. How about this? The Illithids were on the verge of conquering the devastated continent. There was no stopping them. As a final resort, the surviving nations brought together their magic and unleashed an undead scourge on the land. The war left the land and everything on it destroyed. The use of Necromancy was an abomination that nature took badly. Learning quickly to adapt and protect the other continent from succumbing to such a devastating war, you and your brethren of Killorens were born, all imbued with the ability to wield Psionics to stop the Illithids and oppose the other humanoid races from foolishly unleashing such devastating and unnatural magic on the land again. :) |
| Ricohard_Draconis04-23-05, 06:36 AM | thing is the illithid aren't on the verge of conqureing anywhere on this plane, mostly due to our psycotic paladin, the devestated continent is mostly unihabited, the party only knows of it due to some teleportation mix up, or something similar. As to all Killoren being Psychic, while on one level they could be depicted that way it doesn't really fit with their Favored Class, which i think is druid or ranger. Also psionics is something very rare in this campaign setting (i think i'm either the first or the second PC to have access to the psionics throughout the entire campaign.) so i don't like foisting them as an entire psionic race, more that my character is exceptional/different/wierd for being psionic. |
| Ashianyl04-23-05, 06:58 AM | Ok... how about this then. :) Mother nature wants to know what happened to the other continent and you are her champion, tasked with finding out the exact cause, to prevent something like this from happening again and to restore the other continent if possible. She had intended for you (and your brothers and sisters) to have the aspect of the ancients, to grant you the knowledge you would need in your journeys ahead. Thing was, Mother Nature isn't feeling too well (having a whole part of you devastated by screwed up magic can do that to you) and you didn't come out quite as expected. Unlike the other Killorens, you are an albino. Your own people do not see you as one of them, although they feel the connection. Perhaps you may even have traces of Illithid in you, if the Mind Flayers were part of some corruption of the land scheme. :) |
