| Rosella08-08-03, 05:45 AM | I have a character that is now 7th level, but I have to make up where it did get to learn his languages when he was just a kid. He grew up in a small village as a tiefling with a teacher that showed him how to fight etc. The languages I'm having trouble with are Infernal AND abyssal :) |
| Androminous08-08-03, 08:04 AM | Perhaps he is the offspring off two differnt fiendish bloodlines. One demonic and one devilish. On both these sides there was a fiendish general or the like whose bloodline was destined to bear a great leader in the war between the devils and the demons. Now this character is haunted in his dreams by demonic and devilish visions who speaks to him in their respective languages trying to bend him over to their side. |

| Trydan08-18-03, 11:34 AM | Perhaps you have no idea where you learnt them. You just started speaking them one day. The village cleric thinks you've been possessed, the paladin in the nearby castle wants you executed, and the old aloof wizard in the ruined tower suddenly is trying to befriend you. Lots of possibilities there, and without really needing to explain the languages at all. It is just part of the mystery. |
| Veii08-21-03, 01:50 PM | I was going to suggest something similar to Trydan's. How about: When you dream, it is all you hear, it is all you speak. Those terrible sounds, spoken in hushed whispers. You were scared as a child, never told anyone. Sleep was never easy. After a time though, you got used to it. You never had more nightmares than anyone else. You just spoke and heard these strange languages. Perfect DM fodder for a plot hook. |
| Peepi08-23-03, 09:42 PM | This one's a long shot: The people in the village who can handle it learn the language so that they can negotiate with (*cough* appease *cough*) extraplanar threats. |
