| lathnar06-07-04, 04:07 AM | I just created a Forgotten Realms character, first time in the Realms. I went with a female Paladin of Lathander and came across an interesting quandry; if Lathander demands fertility of mind and body (Faiths and Pantheons), does that mean she has to have children? Or is she just required to stay in a fertile state (not take the root that prevents that sort of thing)? It seems illogical that she would run around getting pregnant all the time as her adventuring career gets underway, at least to me. And marriage at this stage seems premature. I'd like to just keep her chaste, at least while she's dungeon delving and saving the Realms from the evil hordes, but would that be against the ethos? I figured that occasionally acting as a midwife and planting some crops might be enough along with the usual retinue of do-gooder activities. A child about 8th to 10th could make for some character development, but up front seems like a bit of a conflict. Any thoughts? |

The mind must be able to learn new things and accept other views. The body must be healthy and capable of development. While Lathander would most likely encourage childbirth, I suspect it is not demanded of his followers; civil or clerical. If the paladin chose to have a child, the church would probably be very leniant in it's expectations of duty from her during such time. However, I would think a female paladin of Lathander would view the world in need as her 'children'. That need should far outweighing her own desire to have a child of her own blood. Should she eventually settle and give up her paladin status, a child would then be more practical. |
