With the Forgotten Realms campaign setting in mind...

I have chosen to play a Elven Paladin of Sune (a CG diety of beauty that allows LG Paladin worshippers) and find it difficult to pin down a history or personalty.

The personalty is the hardest aspect so we should look at that in more detail. A flighty and flirty personalty doesn't seem to fit a Lawful character nor does the violence associated with combat fit in with the model of beauty.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, being an elf, perhaps this palladin feels particularly drawn to places of great natural beauty, and feels it is her duty to protect them. This may sound more like a druid's philosophy, but the FRCS book says that "Sune loves and protects her followers, who in turn manifest and protect the beauty of the world."

At least in Tolkien's works, elves were known for singing hauntingly beautiful music also. Perhaps your palladin could have some ranks in Perform and be a lover of music. It is a shame that alignment restrictions make palladin/bard multiclassing impossible, because I think it makes perfect sense for a certain type of character. And a palladin of Sune seems like one of them. Perhaps you could have her be in love with a famous bard or something. Look at the description of Lillends in the monster manual for a creature that feels responsible for protecting great works of beauty.

Sune is also the goddess of Love. Perhaps your palladin has a more Platonic view on Love than is typical for those of her faith. She could believe in an idealized, perfect love that doesn't judge a person by their looks, but tries to see through to inner beauty and to love unconditionally.

Anyway, sounds like a cool character concept. Hope at least a bit of that might be useful.

Perhaps would you start as a CG fighter/bard, then take the Holy Liberator PrC.

Why would an elf would choose to be a follower of Sune, since Hanali Celanil, an elven goddess, has exactly the same portfolio? Perhaps did you grew in a human city, and you loose the contack with most elven communities.

There is a difference between love and lust. Beauty and passion are blessed things, but the ultimate vitrue is love. Without it, beauty and passion are merely illusion. Love is what justifies beauty and fuels passion. Without love they cannot endure.

As a paladin of Sune, you could uphold the ideals of true love. Paladins are judgemental at times and discerning between true love and mere lust or need could be a point of honor and purpose for your paladin.
While the chaos of passion is understood and accepted, it is the underlying love, the infallible and unwavering nature of true love, that is lawful. Devotion to that principle is righteous.
As far as combat is concerned, true love is the greatest of all things in life and none should shy away from fighting for that love. Dying to sustain true love assures you a place within Sune's heart itself, for true love is endless. Some hearts simply cannot comprehend true love. Some hearts have been so blackened and crippled that true love is forever beyond them. There can be no mercy for those beings and perhaps death can restore what they are missing in life.

This could pose interesting moral questions when Beauty loves the heartless Beast, but all paladins must find their own bearings and issues such as these serve to test faith and bring greater understanding.

make it your character's duty to dispose of ugly things. Being lawful, and maybe a little eccentric with this concept, the paladin could see it as his/her quest to destroy anything ugly (evil is ugly...)

Purger of Ugly Souls... neat concept. I had a male paladin of Sune whose duty he felt it was to kindle the unseen beauty in all and protect it. And hearty smites for those who choose a life of destruction or foul-heartedness. Then again, he ended up converting to Mielikki... long story...

I really like vexxan's propsal of upholding true love, it sounds really good. PhaedrusXY's point is cool also, but I have so small amount of skill points (4 at first level and 1 every level after) I have to concentrate on a small few to survive.

Don't think of it as sex, think of it as physical devotion ceremony to a deity... on a frequent basis... with attractive strangers. A righteous, discriminating hooker in a sense.

What about the symmetry and beauty of order?

Or of nobility and honor itself?

You know, with all the hip pageantry involved...

Sure you aren't thinking Sharess, rather than Sune? After all, Sharess is the deity of "sensual fullfillment". Sure, Sune's followers are told to "Let [their] appearance stir and delight those who look upon [them]", but there's quite a distance in dressing to look sexy and to actually having sex with others.

Think of the beauty of the mountain, or of the stars. Love unmoving in its devotion, the love that makes a home. The beauty that is the bond holding together a family.
