lawful good elf? [Archive] - Wizards Community

i have been playing with the concept of a lawful good elven fighter. trained with the longsword and the longbow. with a high inteligence and an even higher opinion of himself. i wanted him to be all about elven culture, including devotion to Corellon. i even thought of having him take his first level as a cleric of Corellon, just to give him some character, and a few minor spells for fun. i love correlons domains and everything was working out well until i realized that corellon is CG and LG would cause me to lose all my cleric abilities. i suppose i could go NG, but i already told my DM to introduce me as a LG militant elf. im not really sure what to do. i suppose i have to either ditch the ties to correlon, which blows, or ditch my lawful stance,. if i do ditch my lawful stance and go neutral good, does that fit with a military man?
honestly the cleric level doesnt give me much power, weapon focus longsword and a light spell basically, but i really wanted that stuff for the roleplay aspect. i was hoping he could be bread to be a cleric but find it to boring so he becomes a fighter fighting for glory and honor in the eyes of his god who he still fundamentally worships.

i dont know any ideas suggestions or just clever banter would be appreciated.

Sounds more like a swashbuckler (Complete Warrior) to me. There is a nice prestige class in Races of the Wild that focuses on melee focused elves that are devoted to Corelleon. The book also has some substitution levels for elf paladins which might be what you are looking for.

well this is a beginners game and although i have an extensive knowledge of DnD, i myself am a beginner when it comes to actually playing the game. (my first real attempt at roleplaying. anyhow the DM frowns upon prestige classes and even wants there to be a good reason for any multiclassing. we are using the core books PHB, DMG, MM. the other players are all friends and i am just a guy that works with a few of them, so i dont want to go getting all control freak on them i just want to play my character the way i see him.

your suggestions are great i believe you are thinking of the Champion of Corellon PrC. i like that one too. but like i said i have to keep it basic and streamlined. i think this character concept is gonna have to be ditched for this round. since i start tommorow and the DM already knows me as a LG military Elf. damn corellon and his chaotic nature.

percy from harry harry potter seems to me how a lawfull good elf would act. Compleatly turning his back on his chaotic brothers and sisters.

An interesting twist could be he is so caught up in his beliefs of elf tradition and what to be an elf is that he misses the point. He claims to worship Corellon, but instead derives his powers from his faith in the power of elven tradition (So he claims to worship Corellon, but is instead worships an ideal)

As for going more conventional (Neutral Good), are you willing to play a character who's not quite a tradition nazi. It sounds as if your character doesn't quite understand the message of elven society, and as an important part of that doesn't get the easy going aspect of elfdom. He would be the elf who thought elf's danced under the stars for traditions sake, and not merely to enjoy the beauty.

I'd say to keep your idea right now go pure fighter and have him be openly devout without actually joining the clergy. The cleric of an ideal would also work if you don't mind doing a little character twisting in there.

How firm are you in the concept that this character worshops Corellon? The suggestion that he worships a LG ideal of elvenness is a pretty good one, or he could worship a non-elven LG god.

There are three solutions to your problem that I can see.

a) Take paladin levels instead of cleric levels and worship Heronious, or a similar lawful good deity. This solution may prove to actually be advantagious for your character. Because his base attack would be better with paladin levels he would be better at fighting. (Which is really what a fighter does.

b) If you are dead set on taking divine spell caster levels I would suggest that you look elsewhere. You could take Favoured Soul levels. Slower spell progression and no domains but also the only alignment restriction is not neutral. At higher levels Favoured Souls also get weapons focus with their deity's favourite weapon, so this may be a better option than cleric anyways. Favoured Soul is in Complete Divine and Miniatures Handbook.

c) You could just roleplay your character's change to neutral good or chaotic good. For example, your character starts to feel less satisfied with the teachings he was raised with as he see's the world. He questions these teachings and voila, an alignment change.

Firstly, the quintessential elf would probably be more like a swashbuckler. A quick, agile warrior who dances around his enemies. A swashbuckler would let you take advantage of your elven dexterity bonus too.

If you want to be a fighter, make sure you get feats like dodge and weapon finesse. If you insist on wearing fullplate and smashing enemies with a sword, at least behave like an elf. Arrogance is good, and so is disdain.

If you wanted to do the fighter/cleric thing, that perhaps you could roleplay a change to neutral good. Or maybe he reveres two deities. He worships Corellon Larethian because he represents the elven aspect to life, but he follows another god, such as Ehlonna or Heironeous because he believes in their ideals. He could be a cleric of that god.

Your last (and possibly best) option would be to take favoured soul instead of cleric. True, it lacks some clerical flavor, but it does get weapon focus and weapon specialization with deity's favoured weapon, in your case the longsword. And a favoured soul will let you keep your lawful good alignment. Emphasize the militant aspect of elves, perhaps the xenophobia and certainly the hatred of orcs and dwarves.
