hey guys, i was looking through book of exalted deeds yesterday and was very interested in the slayer of domiel PrC...basically a lawful good assassin.

i am considering playing a fighter/rogue/slayer of domiel in our upcoming campaign and was looking for tips on playing a lawful good fighter/rogue (to begin with) and eventually a lawful good assassin!!

any help will be massively appreciated

Well first off im of the opinion that the slayer of domiel isnt that great a class. If you really want to play a LG assassian, why dont you do just that. Start out as an evil assassian and work your way up to LG? It would be a great role playing experience... having a whole assassian guild after you.... oh yeah! :P

Im pretty sure it doesnt say anywhere that you loose the assassian abilities if you become good. Just a thought though.

well, i suppose then theres always the problem of having to play an evil character for 10+ levels which wont work unfortunately :(

especially with a paladin in my group :(

Of course it could work, just dont be stupid evil. Play an anti-hero or something, the ends justify the means. Or just be a really selfish person and focus only on what you can gain, make people pay for your help.

You dont have to go round killing people willi-nilli, that would **** a paladin off. But he cant smite you if your just greedy and if he does... tell the player to stop playing his paladin lawfull stupid.

are you going for good storytelling? because in such a case, the more complex the better. Maybe thats the only reason he doesnt smite you like a redheaded stepchild, because you're his family. Perhaps adventuring with you is his way of attempting to convert you to the light. Maybe adventuring with him is your way of attempting to convert him to the darkside...or at least get him to lighten up.

The family angle is really a great starting place to generate interaction, and personal agendas with your party. After all, if you guys all just met up in a Tavern, and you're LE, he's not gonna run with you. Grow up together, and things are different, eh?

Working with what you actually want to do in the first place...

It's not hard to have LG rogue/fighters; you just have to look at the personality, not the stereotypes of the classes. Lawful fighters are pretty common, and lawful rogues are slightly less so, but certainly not unheard of. Basically, your rogue would have a sense of law, justice, right/wrong and all that jazz, respecting life and people's rights. You don't lie, you will seek to spare a foe if they can be converted to your position, you are a man of honour...
So, you're not a theif, but a skilled individual, perhaps a scout or something like that. You could be an operative for a city/kingdom working to further its goodly ends, you are the one who can open locks that bar the road to justice, blah blah blah. Being a rogue and having principles isn't all that hard, it's just easier to be chaotic.
Concerning Sneak Attack, well, it doesn't have to be a backstab manoeuver; the text describing Sneak Attack basically says that you are adept at spotting weaknesses in your opponent's defenses, and are quick to take advantage of a vulnerability/weak spot, dealing more damage. Do less sneaking to get the bonus and more flanking. There's more honour in flanking than a backstab :P
