Reading the SRD's section on monsters I was quite intrigued by the concept of a nixie character. So I began developing a concept, deciding Sorcerer/Mindbender would be quite fun to play with Charisma in the high twenties-thirties with magic items (going level 6 / ECL 9 /32 point buy just for a place to start). Somewhat annoyed by my burning skill points and having been tickled by the idea of a high Intimidate score, I briefly considered the idea of Draconic Heritage (Red) as a first-level feat, did a double take, and latched onto the idea as being strange and contradictory enough to be a reason why a member of the normally reclusive water sprites would choose to adventure.

But I realized, I don't know anything about the life cycles and not that much about the society of these folk, beyond the SRD and Wikipedia's entry on the D&D version (can't get into the Germanic). So...

Can anyone tell me anything about how long nixies live?

General advice on character creation is, at this stage, always welcome. I'm thinking otter familiar. (basically aquatic weasel, a bit larger though not much larger than some housecats)

Basically they live as long as you want them to.
Technically the beginning of the page which describes the nixie in monster manual says " Legend claims that sprites [including nixies] die only through injury or disease"
Or you could make them live as long as an elf which seems appropriate

Another possible motive for your Nixie to adventure. Ever since your nixie knew that she was dragonblooded, she wanted to find out her father/grandfather - a red dragon who had once taken refuge in the jungle injured by dragonslayers and had been cared for and nursed back to health by the nixie's mother/grandmother

Thanks, not owning the MM, every bit of fluff counts. That said it just might be in the SRD. :)

And I'm taking that idea and running with it. Much obliged, I'll post what I write if it ever gets digitized. :D At the moment I've been reading too much science fiction so the dragon's something of a third parent.
