| Vaelon11-22-05, 08:34 PM | I have a Tiefling rogue (not a thief) who is LN that associates himself with a LG/Cg party. My character plays the darker side of the party and is always being a mysterious force in the party. We have recently acquired some land on which they are building a keep on. We all gained a few followers and I am high enough to begin building my own guild. This is my first character that has made it to this kind of gameplay and I need help starting the whole guild. Here is my request. 1. I need a purpose for this guild - Greed is not a driving factor for my character. 2. I need some filler character concepts for guildmates. - I only have about 7 characters who will run the guild under Vaelon (my char) 3. Also any ideas on methods/locations/trap concepts for a guild would help. Thanks a lot guys in advance. |
| Fithero11-22-05, 09:09 PM | Really depends on what you chacter is all about. The guild could be a group of bounty hunters who track down ciminals, or *anybody* people pay them too. Could be a bunch of vigilanties (spelling?) who use your land as a home base but travel into other lands to adminster their own justice. (kinda like the USA :P jokes people... jokes) Could simply be a wizards guild who keep to themselves. A scouting guild who simply traverse and map as much of the land as they can. Damn it all, it could be a magical potion brewer's guild. We need more info! Hope this helps anyway. Later |
| Vaelon11-22-05, 10:44 PM | I like the bounty hunter guild, as he once was a bounty hunter early in his day. Well a little information about my character: Vaelon. Lvl 15 Tiefling Rogue Closest thing to family is his pet spectral panther named Shar. The rocky relationship with his party is the closest thing he had to a friendship. He is very independant and bit of a loner. He has recently grown to depend on his companions. He is the type of person who dissappears when the situation isn't going his way. But he always returns when the oppotunity is right. If you do need more information about him just let me know as I am new to this and it's hard for me. |
| Harrow Blade11-23-05, 01:52 AM | What was your characters role within the party? was he a trouble shooter who spotted traps and disarmed them, sneak past the sentries (spelling?) to scout ahead etc or was his role something else? think about what it was that made your party members, who differ in alignment, want to keep you around. Once you have that figured out get similarly skilled and minded characters to be part of your guild and sell your services to who even you like. Guild Ideas for rogues:- -Theives guild (done to death and probly not for this char.) -Bounty hunters (suggested by Fithero) -Information gatherers/sellers -Acrobats, performers (i know your not a bard but they tie in.) -Lock smith -Trap finder/disarmer/creater (aka dungeon design consultant) there are more but we need more info. |
| braindead34511-23-05, 02:26 AM | The bounty hunting guild could work, but I have a different idea. The guild could be an information gathering and exchange. It would depend on the region and the local politics/religions/other guilds. The advantage would be that the other characters could choose who they watched and why. Think about how the CIA would be if all of its operations were done freelance and not just for the U.S. government. The challenges are much more detailed. You would have to infiltrate the organization with spies, figure out what intel is important, find a way to get the information to those who could use it, and so on. Much more iteresting than chasing down some guy for a reward. The DM could have fun with this especially if he is a fan of John Le Carre, Ian Flemming and a host of other authors of spy novels. Or he might look at the history books for real spy stories (Lawrence of Arabia, Matti Harri, and several more). |
| Vaelon11-24-05, 11:07 AM | Well my character's role within the party was the scout. I have the pys ability to go invisible and that always helped. I also played problem solver as I did seem to solve most of the puzzles we were thrown into. I had virtually no role within combat as the thief's combat skills had been nerfed by house rules. As for the other members of my party, The was LN human cavalier of Kelemvor, a CG wood elven ranger hippie, LG Female Human Paladin of Tyr, a CG High Elven Archer, and CG half wood half aquatic elven mage. I have a rocky relationship with the Ranger as he is hot-headed and stupidly overzealous. He the type of guy would run into a room with 200 cult-fanatics to save the damzel in distress. The Paladin...well she is a paladin. She doesn't quite trust me but I haven't given her a reason to doubt me. As far as the rest of the party. Tha mage doesn't know too mucha bout me as I was gone when he entered the party and arrived again after I had dissappeared with something very important to the party. He has ESP and always trys to read my thoughts but I'm always blocking him. Let's just say he doesn't trust me. Everyone else just sits back as they have neutral feelings towards me. I wouldn't say they all 'want' me but they do NEED me as I am the only rogue. One quirk about Vaelon is that he never lies. The closest thing that he has done is withheld part of a story. He lives by his word as that is the only thing that he has left. I also like the gathering and exchange of information as well as the bounty hunter thing. Maybe one can be a major focus and the other be a minor focus of the guild. But I like the ideas. Keep them Coming |
| erbmjw11-24-05, 09:11 PM | Quick Question - why is he loner? ie what originally made him a loner? |
| Vaelon11-27-05, 08:24 PM | He was originally a slave of a powerful wizard and work as an assassin for most of his life. |
| Vaelon11-27-05, 08:51 PM | I like the ideas everyone is bringing to the table. I like the whole bounty hunting with info gathering and sale on the side. I was talking to my DM about it and he feels that it is a good plan. BUT as a LN character how would I justify hunting people of good alignment? Or would the guild just stay away from hunting people of good alignment? And if I did pursue people of good alignment would the guild be nothing more than an assassins guild |

Even a paladin might unwittingly fail to pay a tax or get permission from the local government to enter a ruined tomb. |

Even a paladin might unwittingly fail to pay a tax or get permission from the local government to enter a ruined tomb. Cool now that I have a focus for the guild I need some people to populate it. I know that there is another thread on this and I liked some of the character ideas on there but I wanted to give a different flavor for it. I would like most of the races in the guild to be dark and exotic. The guild is of LN alignment and most of them should around this alignment. I don't really want any choatic alignments unless they have a really good reason for being there. I would like to see character from level 0 at the lowest and level 9 at the highest. Oh and one last thing. As my character does not like divine magic/powers/ or casters, no clerics. |
