So, I have an extensive backstory but I don't know that it really apply, so I'll try skipping it. If you want more, let me know.

We adventured from level 1 to level 4 (sunless citadel). On the road, afterward on our way to a big city to sell our haul, we encountered a basilisk. He turns the party to stone, all of us. DM decides that before all of us are eaten, the basilisk is driven off. He rolls some percentiles, and decides which person dies first, second.

Long story short, my druid and his dog were the last two to be eaten. The rest of the party died (2 NPCs, 2 PCs). They rerolled characters, DM told me he wanted me to keep my druid going because...

Fourty years later, my druid is revived by a passing cleric. He has the situation explained to him (there's a story about 'the boy and his wolf' statues on the side of the road by now) and sort of...snaps. Out of a piece of a statue of one of my friends, a small shrub of some sort was growing. I transplanted it into a cookpot, filled with soil, etc. I've decided that he will treat the plant very well, talk to it, etc. Other than this, I'm unsure of what other quirks, traits, attitudes etc that my character should adopt.

I went through the 1001 quirks thread, and thought that most of them, while good, were a little on the light side. I'm wanting to have this character turned almost depressed, angry...and who knows what else? That's sort of why I'm here.

Any ideas for this poor sap?

Seriously think about what may have happened in the time since he was stoned. His parents are probably dead, hsi sweetheart is probably married and celebrating the arrival of yet another grandchild. His friends are all gone, and only he survived.
Does he maybe feel guilty that they are gone and he is still around? Would he maybe seek out their families and try to make some sort of amends to them?
Will he use this opportunity to gain revenge on an enemy who might now be old and feeble?
The political climate may have changed. Is his old homeland even still there? Maybe they got overrun by orcs and he might seek revenge on the orcs for his dead country men?
Or maybe he'll become some sort of basilisk hunter and find a means to go around and free the people who have suffered the same fate as you did.
Maybe he will have learned some transcendental lesson due to his bad luck and go about the countryside teaching his new philosophy on life.
Or maybe he'll just snap under the weight of it all and just sit around talking to that plant.
An interesting transcendental lesson he might learn is that from tragedy a new life may come.
The possibilities are endless and you could explore alot of them. Seems like you have to pick one that you really think would be fun and run with it until it isn't fun anymore.
