| JWT05-16-06, 09:42 AM | OK, due to a magical fountain (for the Age of Worms campaign) I have gained an extra weapon or exotic weapon profficency. Unfortunately I am a sorcerer. (I SO wanted the +2 to a stat, but I would have ended up with a withered hand.....) So - any suggestions out there for a cool / sweet / in character, but still useful choice for this feat. My guy is the blaster type, and he tends to go for flashy spells. He will probably take polymorph, and Tenser's Transformation when he gets a chance, so weapons that work with those spells would be good. He has a decent DEX but no STR, so meele is out really - I am looking for a neat ranged weapon, that is. I COULD take a finessable weapon, but frankly, I don't want to spend a feat on something that may be useful once. (If your arcane caster is in meele, something has gone wrong......) Also, he currently wears a buckler, but I might take shield profficency with this magical boon. Any thoughts? |
| Felyndaer05-16-06, 02:36 PM | Morningstar or a pick. Seriously, how many people do you see wielding either of those? I have honestly never heard of a PC using a morningstar. If you're just going for an exotic-ish weapon, then go for Nunchaku. They're totally awesome, and will definately impress the ladies. |
| JWT05-16-06, 03:27 PM | I can barely carry my pack (HHH, natch), my staff and my shield. A pick or a mace would likely make me burdened. Barring that, the nunchucks sound cool, but I am likely to hit with it come the eighth of never. So, standing next to the DR 15 Collossal Kyuss Worm waving a pair of nunchucks means instant death really. I think I need a neat ranged weapon of some sort. Exotic would be fine too. |
| Need_A_Life05-16-06, 03:30 PM | Choose something and move on... doesn't really matter because for all intents and purposes A WIZARD DID IT! |
| JWT05-16-06, 03:59 PM | Well thats just about the most useless piece of advice. Chalk me up as an unsatisfied customer, Need_A_Life. I expect to see my tally on your sig. Anyone got anything useful to contribute? |
| nihility05-16-06, 06:36 PM | How about a hand crossbow? Lightweight, ranged, and only takes up one hand. |
| Gilganarz_the_reporter05-17-06, 07:17 AM | There is one I'd suggest for sheer irony, but it would be a spoiler I'd say go with a hand crossbow. Shoot, reload, spell then shoot again... |
| JWT05-17-06, 08:36 AM | I do like the idea of the hand-crossbow. Thanks! As far as the spoiler weapon - I think our DM told us about that item. Are its initials EM? |
| Tuah05-21-06, 10:24 PM | I'd use a spiked chain. I do quite often. Whenever I'm casting a spell, I quickly put once side of it together in my other hand for a free action. In real life, it does take only around 1/4 to 1/2 of a second. |
| Fithero05-22-06, 04:50 AM | dude, seriously.. your a sorcerer.. if your even within missile range of one of those worms your gonna get F.U. Just take a melee prof (any one) and put the defending magical ability on it.. have it give you a bonus to your ac. That or take tower shield prof, just hide behind it. ps: i wouldnt bag out Need A Life, with that sort of resume he's gotta be doin' something right. He does have a point though, this is a pretty pointless topic, no offence dude. Later |

He does have a point though, this is a pretty pointless topic, no offence dude. Well thanks for pointing that out, too, oh great leader of the internet. Now I know that asking about Character Development on the Character Development boards, is not just silly, its way out of line! Good think I had your emminence here to educate me. Did you finish up this post and hurry over to the CO boards to tell them that the DM would never allow pun-pun? Look - I know its a relatively useless feat for me, but I see nothing wrong with asking for ideas here. If you do, then just get over it. I certainly didn't expect a bunch of puffed up, deliberately rude jerks spouting less than useless advice. This being the internet and all, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Thank goodness there were some people who took it at face value. Specifically thanks for the help: Tuah, Gilganarz_the_reporter, nihility and Felyndaer. |
| Fithero05-22-06, 08:32 AM | no offense dude. Apparently you missed that last part. Dude, you gotta chill out. If you go back and read my post again, youll see that i did actually answer your question. You said you didnt want a melee weapon cos your a sorc, that you wanted a ranged, so it would be of use. I actually thought about it, and offered "youd still be pretty poor with a ranged weapon.. your a sorcerer, poor BaB.. why not use a melee weapon and gain an ac bonus... thats something everybody can use" So come on man, be fair, i did actually think about it and try to give a usefull response. But alas, out of my whole post, apparently all you read was the second 3rd of my last sentence, which kinda suggests to me that all your lookin for is a fight. Grow up kid. Later |
| nihility05-22-06, 01:54 PM | Make love, not flames! |
| Sean, THe Incompotent05-22-06, 04:16 PM | long bow could be your friend if you happen to have true strike or bulls strength, and called shot would not be a wasted feat if you go this rout true strike and called shot face is pretty nasty. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash06-12-06, 06:43 PM | Since you say you're a blaster-type sorcerer, the weapon isn't the most important thing for you. However, range is always good. If you want to be reeeaally far away, go with something like the Greatbow from Complete Warrior. The polearms from Dragon #331 could be nice as well, with a 10-foot reach. |
| Reversefigure406-12-06, 09:34 PM | An extra weapon OR an EWP, if I've read that right. A melee weapon is out for a sorc - if you get to that stage, you're dead anyway. A ranged weapon is more useful, but still not great (and as a blaster, you want to be blasting, not using weapons). I'd recommend the hand crossbow, or maybe bolas or a whip - fun, but you'll be lousy at tripping. Personally, I'd just go for flavour rather than function here. Ask for an extra magical weapon, an enchanted staff or something. It doesn't have to be overpowered. Maybe it's just a staff with a cantrip that you don't know charged into it, one use per day (this should make it worth about 300gp or so, so it's actually less powerful than a masterwork other weapon). Raise the power level according to your campaign, and be sure to make the staff as flavorful as you want. It's generated magically, after all, so if you want it the same colour as your sorc's robes with his deities laughing face carved into the end, go for it. |
| Narishma06-13-06, 03:31 PM | I say go with either the hand crossbow... or, just for the looks(and damage), go with a great crossbow from races of stone... massive crossbow(think mini-ballista)... good damage(around that of a greatsword i think) and good range... over like 100 feet if i recall... It is kinda heavy... but meh. Would be cool to toat around a massive crossbow... atleast i think so... |
