-Basically, I am looking for an interesting template and/or PrC for an evil wizard I was creating as an NPC. Details will follow, but first:

-I do not want a:

Lich!
Vampire!
Lycanthrope of any sort!

-Anyway, this NPC is an interesting one. He originally was an apprentice to a thoroughly evil wizard. The NPC's master joined a Cabal of Evil Wizards, who were planning world domination. The apprentice, who was growing in power too quickly for his masters liking, was frame by his own teacher. As a punishment, the teen was cast into a portal, which actually dumped the teen into the past, about 75 years or so, to be exact. Growing up in the past, the apprentice eventually traverses into the Underdark. There, he is able to secretly gain control and manipulate a small city of either Illithid or Beholders (I haven't decided yet). Anyway, does anyone have an interesting ideas for a Template I can add to this NPC, or a PrC that might fit?

Half-illithid

Shadow

Shade

Necropolitan

Vampire SPAWN :P

Just take over the mindflayers, they're much easier to defeat than beholders... Just remember that Freedom of Movement to escape grapples.

Juju zombie template from unapproachable east.
Acolyte of the skin PrC- Complete Arcane
Shadow adept PrC- player's guide to Faerun
Ocular adept (beholders) PrC -from Faiths and Pantheons
Give him beholder grafts - items from the Fiend Folio

Corpse creature or bone creature template from Book of Vile Darkness
Any full-caster PrC's from that book.
PS Don't read it if you are squeamish or under 17.

-Hmm...I like the Half-Illithid Template idea. But, at the same time, I like the Occular Adept Prestige Class.

-I lost my copy of the Fiend Folio, so could someone give me a quick rundown of the main benefits the Half-Illithid template grants, and how one gets the template in the first place (Something to do with failed Ceremorphis, if I remember correctly)?

-Perhaps, I can use the two in tandem. He first becomes a Half-Illithid, and later is able to subtlely gain control of a Beholder city, Occular"-izing" himself in the process. Possibilities, possibilities...

Limited mindblast
Extraction (obviously)
four tentacle attacks (damage based on size)
Bonuses to mental scores

Can be added to any humanoid.

I won't post more than this as I fear that some people will knock on my door and blame me for people just using what is posted on web-sites instead of buying the books.

-Hey, this is good enough. This is going to be one of those odd NPCs who populate the world the the characters are never going to encounter, kind of character.

-I've decided that the character's story will be something like this:

The Apprentice finds himself in a cavern in the Underdark. He is captured by Illithid, and is chosen to become one of them. The Illithid tadpole is implanted in his brain, but using his arcane powers, and a bit of luck, he is able to escape, ending the Ceremorphis in the process. But, he does become a half-Illithid.

Wandering in the Underdark, he eventually comes upon a hive of Beholders. Somehow I have yet to think of, they accept him, and he becomes a Occular Adept. Using his Half-Illithid powers, he is slowly able to secretly control the mind and actions of the Beholder Elder Orb, effectivley making it a puppet leader.

-Thanks guys, for the help!

What if when your character was wandering through the underdark, and a beholder (or group thereof) saw him, and were about to zap the %$#@ out of him when he bowed down and started worshipping them and the Great Mother? They, amused by this worship (that they viewed as rightfully their's as superior beings), took him back to their hive city (or whereever beholders live), and continued to educate him in a manner of worship they found more suitable.

Thus he began his rise to power, first as head of the human slaves and cultists there, and later aquiring power over the weaker gauths, eyeball beholderkin and spectators.

whad'dya think?

And i recon he needs the Improved Familiar feat and an Eyeball beholderkin familiar :behold: :D

-Sounds like a suitable beginning. I have in mind that this character is the sort who would have no honor, or anything, and would beg, plead and so on for anyone to spare his life. Something like the character Benny, from The Mummy movies. He is proficient in groveling. Of course, later on, he will become more of a leader type. But, either way...

Glad you like it. I still think he should have an Eyeball Beholderkin familiar though :D

-Eh, I don't know. I never really liked familiars. But, I think a Beholderkin Eyeball could be useful in this case.
