I had a couple interesting ideas for a character recently.

My DM normally runs Gestalt campaigns, so I normally think of interesting class combinations and stories that could go with them.

I haven't thought of a name for him, but here are the two concepts, both of which are for the same class combination.

Spellthief/Warlock

The first is for a Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil character.

Born to two spellthieves, CHARACTER grew up idolizing his parents, and by the age of ten had learned the rudiments of their arts. He and his parents moved around often, and on one of their journeys they are attacked by a goblin warband. Taking shelter in a nearby tree, he sees the goblins use their overwhelming numbers to swarm his parents. Luckily, their bloodlust is sated by this and none of them notice the small boy hiding in the tree.

A few hours later, a group of pixies pass by and hear the boy's weeping. They take pity on him and bring him to their home.

After a few years, the boy begins to notice some changes in himself, he is able to manifest small bolts of energy (Eldritch Blast) and seems to be able to see his Pixie family even when they have gone invisible (See the Unseen). After practicing with these new abilities for a time, he decides to take revenge on the Goblins who killed his parents. One night, he assaults the Goblin camp and kills the warriors.

Unbeknownst to him, one of his Pixie friends followed him and hid in a nearby tree. When he returns to the clearing that has been his home for the past 6 years, he finds that all of the Pixies have abandoned him. He searches for months, but to no avail. Frustrated and alone, he wanders until he finds a human settlement and integrates himself into society.

This one is much less complicated and without the whole "orphaned" cliche. Also, it is more suited to any Chaotic character (stupid Warlock alignment restriction).

Child is born to two Spellthieves, and their continual absorbtion of magic has caused it to imbed itself in their child. Growing up, he exhibits several interesting abilities, such as random bursts of magical energy and the odd ability to walk up walls and across ceilings. Through spellthief training, he learns to control both his inborn powers and the power he can "borrow" from others.

Good job! I likle the second one, and I think you do as well. It makes sence, isn't overly complecated, doesn't seem too unbelievable, doesn't use cleques, and most of all, dosn't involve any gods or ancioent prophecies. The perfect background for a charecter that has yet to be played.
