Hi,

I'm really new to the world of dnd. As such theres a lot of lore and stuff that I have no clue about. I want to make a cleric of Ilmater and I was wondering if anyone could tell me about some good sources of information to find out about Ilmater, his relationships and life, his followers, saints, holidays, rituals. Really anything to do with him and if it isn't to much trouble some sources for other really important things in the forgotten realms. I don't really want to read the stories so much as just summarized facts mainly because I'm kind of excited to get playing :D . It feels wierd posting this but no matter where I look on the internet. I just can't find any useful or important information.

Thanks

At your local gaming store consider asking them to order you a copy of Faiths of Faerun. It sounds like just what your asking after. Church dogma, a few holidays, relations with other churchs, etc.

Hey, I've been playing D&D for about 15 years now and I'm still behind on my Forgotten Realms lore. That is a really deep setting, so its a challenge for everyone. You'll probably pick it up pretty quickly as you get playing though.. thats really the best way to learn.

I second Terjon's suggestion - Faiths of Faerun is a good place to start. In fact, all the core Forgotten Realms books are a good start. I only have the 3rd edition ones, not the newest 3.5 edition books, if there are any, so I'll refrain from making detailed suggestions in case I end up misleading you.

If you don't want to shell out any cash - and I wouldn't blame you - you can always just try the wikipedia entries on the subject. Just toss "faerun" into the search and you'll find all kinds of information about geography, cultures, deities and so on.

Cheers, and welcome to the world of D&D! ^_^

Hey I just got the chance to check back here and I really appreciate the help. I looked for some books and found "Faiths and Pantheons" is that much different? It wasn't as detailed as I was hoping but it was still helpfull. But if this "Faiths of Faerun" is more detailed than I just need to look harder.

Anyway,
HAPPY FACES FOR ALL :) :) :) :) :) :)

There is no such book as faiths of faerun [terjon probably meant faiths & pantheons], but a series of articles in dragon magazines
