I have an upcoming Iron Kingdoms game. I have talked the DM into replacing sorcerers with warlocks for our campaign.

Warlocks are held in suspicion. Not actively persecuted, but distrusted. There are occasional lynchings of suspected warlocks, and the governments will most likely turn a blind eye.

I will be playing a warlock. My focus will be on bluff and disguise, as I attempt to pass myself off as a wizard. I will be trying to redeem my blood, to show that I am truly a good person.

Any suggestions? Looking to really ham this up.

Thanks,

Commune with a demon and take levels in the acolyte of the skin prestige class

Just kidding.

You'll just have your character prove that he is to be trusted, by saving the world or something like that.
Some more information would be nice, try to write up a background or just keywords for your character and post it here.

Be loyal to your friends but fail to understand why they help you despite what you are. Ask them why they came back for you when they risked their lives for you. On the other hand you'll gladly sacrifice your life for your friends.

Always see yourself as flawed and evil even when you make paladins look like devils.

Need_A_Life - that is some tasty RP there. Thx.

Backstory - Well, thats why I'm posting here. Some of the ideas:

Iron Kingdoms has human subraces, with attr mods and free skills. The subrace I am picking gets a +2 to CHA and a -2 to WIS with diplomacy as a free class skill.

So, my Warlock (name pending) is the son of a pair of minor diplomats. My 'deformity' is the result of my mother being poisoned while pregnant w/ me during a court war of assassins. When born, my mother retired to a nunnery to pray for redemption at having born such vile spawn. I was raised by priests, constantly reinforcing my belief in my essentially flawed and evil make-up. During this time, my father disavowed us both.

About 16, my powers started to manifest, which drove my mother to suicide. Also, the priests began attempting to exorcise the influence of the dark one from me.

These exorcisms were strenuous and painful, and ultimately fruitless, so I fled. I found out that wizards can do what I do, only better, and people don't seem to mind them so much. So I started imitating them to gain a sort of acceptance. This led to a brief period of peace, during which I determined that I am NOT evil, but that I need to prove that to the world. Additionally, I need to find my father and find out who poisoned my mother.

So there it is, first draft of back story.

Comments and suggestions welcomed.

I LOVE role play. The group I'm in, however, seems to displedge it. However, I still strive on to my best...as such, I've played a VERY similar character and this is the choice I took. Our DM, too, provides humans with a +2 to any stat and a chosen permanent skill...I chose bluff.

My character had demonic bloodlines (not those from the UA). I was abandoned at birth at the doorstep of a local temple to Pelor due to a deformity that I gained from my horrid birth...I had two small protrusions from my forehead that resembled horns. The temple of Pelor taught me all about who I was with as much honesty as they could and, thus, I gained a Chaotic Good alignment over the years. I believed that the world was a good place and that I could change it to one that is better by harnessing the powers that were bequethed to me and using them for better uses. Thus, I became a Warlock (as they were innate powers). The Temple of Pelor told me that they could not harbor me any more once my powers bloomed and that I was to find quarry for myself.

So, the adventure begins...the way that our DM interprets the powers of a Warlock is that (generally and in my case) that a Demon begins to drill his way into my soul and further my powers. Thus, I took levels in Acolyte of the Skin. My reasoning was simple, I was going to harbor this demon and fool him (with an outrageous bluff) that I was using him for evil when I was truly using him for good purposes. My mentallity was, if I could keep this demon with me, he wouldn't have the chance to squander into other poor souls. I was a vessel of hope so to speak...I was what I fought.

So, the story goes that the role play was great. The DM has the same outlook on Warlocks as yours. The magic is illegal but only a few crazy souls (all of whom are Paladins) actively seek to destroy them. I use my bluff in a way similar to you but, I use the blood of a Sorcerer instead of a Warlock...it seems to fit the bill better.

A great way to conceal your "warlockdom" is by channeling your Eldritch Blasts. You might want to hop over to the Character Optimization Boards (where I live) for more help on how to max out your build. Tealgorthian (I hope I spelled that right) has an excellent post up for Warlock builds. Otherwise, good gaming.
