a group of guys i know is starting up a d&d group and I'm going to join. i need help creating my character (can't find my dice set) and working on a back story.

so far i am thinking of going with a half silver dragon elf fighter. trying to think of a compelling back story as well as trying to remember how to create my char. on the sheet (been a while)

i was going to have his adult name be draconic with his elven family name.

I want to have something in there about being forced to succeed in sorcery and leaving to become a fighter, later on he will take up sorcery again.

not sure what to do in almost all aspects of his creation (not so good with the character sheets)

Well, you're on the right track with Fighter, it goes well with the stats half dragons get. If you want particulars as far as making a strong build, check out the Character Optimization forum for that bit.

But first off, do you already have the go-ahead for a half-dragon character or no?

what exactley do you mean by go ahead? we're still working details out. getting everything, just exploring an option at the moment. bought races of the dragon and was looking at the leveling advice they give on using half dragons in regular campaigns. otherwise i would be either a half-elf, human or orc fighter.

also, we're trying to recruit more people before we start. we have 3 so far. our DM (played for years at the local shop which went out of business and the employees bought the old lot)
a friend who is just getting into and has live action roleplaying exp. and me who is basically the book worm.

I meant do you have DM permission. Half-dragon is a fairly powerful template and if everyone else is starting at level 1, it could be difficult to work in. Or did the dungeon master already say it's fine?

As far as the backstory itself, there's always the obvious: how exactly did he (or she) end up being a half dragon? What's the dragon's side of the story? Then work on the other parent, flesh them both out a little bit. Figure out what they might have each taught your character--perhaps the dragon parent tried mentoring him in the arcane arts and was upset when he couldn't or wouldn't learn. That may have led to hard feelings--or not.

Start with the beginning, see where the story takes you.
