| Fithero08-22-05, 05:10 AM | I have a lvl 14 wild elf fighter who uses a s.chain. Now, this character as a +28 to his Prefrom (Dance) skill and at his usual skill check results in a high 30's or low 40's and he has even managed to get a 67 on one attempt. Now what im wondering is what sort of reward should he be getting from these sorts of rolls? A 30 give 3d6 per day and can attract distant patrons or extra planatar beings in due time. So what can a character who gets 40's be expecting in pay and patronage? Im putting this topic in this forum because although he is a fighter and an adventurer, dancing is his passion and he intends to open a dancing school somewhere in the realms...but only when he is the greatest dancer in the all of Toril. Ive looked through the FR setting book and no npc has a higher dance skill that this character. So so far he is in the clear...i think. So, any idea's? |
| WVgamer08-22-05, 08:08 AM | well...in Dragon 333, there are some feats for fighters that require ranks in different types of perform. As for pay and patrons, I'd say 7d6 or maybe even 3d10pp and you are teleported to planes to preform to for celestials and maybe even get to learn from some divine beings (I'd say Eilistraee, Lliira, Sharindlar, or Sheela Peryroyl) |
| Fithero08-22-05, 09:44 AM | yeah, he took a feat (one we made up) that turned preform (dance) into a class skill for him, and made it use DEX instead of CHA. So he has it maxed out. Also he does worship Lliira so yeah, she might just wisk him away at some point so he can dance a jig for her. |

More Role-play options. Also, there might be evil deities interested on seeing him. Loviatar, Gargauth, Mask, Cyric, Beshaba. Here's a link (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/epicSkills.html) to the Epic Skills in the SRD. It says you can change an audience attitude with a good perform check, like diplomacy. |
| Fithero08-23-05, 03:21 AM | What do you think he would be able to do with that sort of skill? Go on a traveling show to all the major cities? Do you think he would be good enough to get an audience with kings/queens...dragons even? Open a school of dance somewhere and train others. Im just thinking of stuff for him to do. But im drawing alot of blanks  |
| Gingerbread Guy08-23-05, 06:22 PM | How did you get a 67 with only a +28?? (I can't believe I just said "only +28".) Anyway, two things really bother me about this conversation: a) I don't think normal people (such as you'd find in an audience) can really distinguish just how fantastic a performance in the 40+ range really is. Unless they're all art critics and dancers themselves, I think any performance above DC 25 or so is pretty damn amazing, and the finer points are going to start going totally over their heads. Only beings with supernatural perceptions and related experience should be able to appreciate truly awesome performances such as yours. b) Just because someone puts on an amazing performance, doesn't mean that peasants are going to flock to you and give you all their money. Your regular tavern-going crowd doesn't have 3d10 pp among them, and they sure as hell aren't going to spontaneously give it to some fancy pants dancer, now matter how well he does the macarena. If you want to make the big bucks, you have to find a wealthy audience, and you're going to need some diplomacy skill to make yourself a good contract. Lets face it, even the affluently wealthy don't really NEED their own personal godly dancer or anything. Now, if you want to really show off your performance, start racking up the penalties. If you're regularly hitting 40s with your rolls, add a difficulty level to your performance that will raise the DC to 40. Instead of just doing ballet, do it on a friggin tight rope 60' in the air. Show off a little. Any 4th level bard can do a perfect tango.. but can he do it in platemail? ~Ginger |

| Fithero08-24-05, 04:12 AM | He got a 67 by first off rolling a 20 then rolling a 19 (yeah, we have crits on skill checks aswell) Make things interesting hey...thats a good point...ill have to try that, thanks for the idea. But i think the spell dancer class is only for females....sadly this character is a guy...damn. Dervish is a possibility....but they have to use slashing weapons.....i always seem to miss out by 1 thing. :weep: |

| Fithero09-14-05, 08:04 PM | In his background he was a thayan slave who was forced to perform for some high wizard, thats before he escaped. A couple of levels ago he was kidnapped by that same thayan high wizard and the other party members were forced to rescue him. More recently though, he had 300,000 gold to spend so he got a +5 book of dex and gloves of dex +6 so yeah, his dance is even higher now. Interesting stuff. Later |
