| Quijenoth11-07-05, 12:43 PM | Ive been poring over the books for a while and brousing the forum for insperation regarding a new campaign im about to play in. the party is only 3 players strong and the DM has stated core/FRCS races (no ECL) only plus access to complete series for classes/prestige - the game begins at 2nd level and i have decided to play a monk! Then i come across a small problem - after liasing with the two other players it appears that the parties make up is as follows. Wood Elf Scout (2), Human Druid (2), and Human Monk (2) This kinda puts me as the front rank fighter and after i looked over my basic build i came across the horrible realisation that i will only have an AC of 13 (+2 dex 15, +1 wis (13) !!!! so i started to rework my stats and consider multiclassing and all other sorts of methods to increase my AC... I found one handy method. ...Scrolls of mage armor...+4 armor bonus that doesnt affect any of your monk skills. Method 1: By taking one level of rogue or bard you can give yourself access to Use Magic Device and Decipher Script. at 1st level you can have 4 ranks in Use magic device, this gives you a base chance of 17 to successfully cast mage armor from a scroll (the cost for a 1 hour mage armor scroll is 12.5gp). At second level you can have 5 ranks in Use magic Device and a +2 synergy bonus from Decipher script for a base chance of 14 to successfully cast the spell. Method 2: By Taking 1 level of Cleric and taking the Magic Domain you can give yourself access to wizard scrolls. No check is involved with these. The reason for me posting this is to show that sometimes you dont have to rely on a classes ability or spells to combat weaknesses. Just the simple application of a few skills can enhance your chances greatly. :) Hope you find this useful. |
