We're starting an OA campaign with a rokugan-ish borrowed setting. We're starting out at lvl 5, I'm going for Warmage. I've been told I may be given a tactitian role latter in the campaign for a siege that we won't see coming, and the leadership over soldiers. I was wondering if anybody could help me with an idea for background for him.

His name is Arasoi (last name to be figured later)
He's a level five spell slinger Warmage with some knowledge in war and tactics. He is a minor nobek of some sort within the Crane clan. He has been given authority credentials and a writ of credit by his superior in the clan for the groups use. He's not a samurai, but he is millitarily trained.

The group will consist of the Warmage a ninja, samurai, monk and two foriegner outlander elves, a ranger and a wizard.

Basically there will be some investigation into what created the "Shadowlands" (most people don't know). Alot of killing humans, fighting Oni and demons and eventually massive battles within the next few months.

I have to figure out what kind of mentallity a person like that would be. He's millitary, a minor noble, about average physicallity and decent spell abilitys...but I want quirks and tradgedy. Interesting stuff...nothing too cliche though.

I don't know if this would work for you particular style of character but my friend once played a fighter that was actually born on a battlefield. He was immediately orphaned when his mother was killed and he never knew who his father was (I guess that could be a little cliche). He was picked up by a military unit and sort of raised by them. Its an interesting concept and with a little tweaking it might work for your character.

I'm not too familiar with the OA campaign setting but wouldn't the samurai in the party be in charge in military situations?

Normally, but my character was trained as a millitary officer. As I've been told...

I had a couple cheesy backgrounds were the character was born sickly and weak. He was unloved. He was picked on. Pale, gaunt...etc. Freaked out at about 13 yrs old. Froze some kids face off and was sent way to a millitary academy by his father as punishment.

I thought that an unattatractive character could still be charismatic in a gaunt creepy way...kinda like william defoe but asian...

But I guess I have to make some pretty boy...which doesn't exactly fit his physical stats...but what the hey, a charming charismatic physically untreatening character...
