With a new campaign starting up, it may be possible to do, but probably won't be allowed anyways. The problem (aside from the difficulty of playing it) is the possibility of powergaming/munchkin abuse. And now for the idea. Madness. A character that has gone round the bend and completely lost his marbles, but doesn't necessarily know it. I'm talking multiple personality disorder (I did get the idea for this from the old ravenloft setting). Ok, that's not exactly original. After all, there's even rules for it. But, here's the twist. The base character will be a shifter. So, when he switches from personality to personality, he actually becomes the new persona physically as well as mentally. I'm thinking that I could keep track of each persona seperately like they were all seperate characters with seperate lives / equipment / alignments / classes / etc... Of course, when one dies, they all die. And, most if not all of the personas would be completely unaware of each other, and be unable to change back and forth willingly. Each persona would have their own little insanities / quirks / phobias, and a trigger that makes them switch to that personality or out of it. Like, when confronted with a puzzle / obscure knowledge source / library /etc. he would have to make a will save or switch from his current form, to his scholarly form (like a loremaster gnome) even if in the middle of combat. He would have no control over the switching, and have to be roleplayed in whatever his current form was. If one persona is good, and the other evil, he may end up trying to track himself down and bring himself to justice. Other personas could be an exalted character and a vile character (a kind of Mr. Hyde and Un Mr. Hyde) as well as NPC classes or nonviable characters (a frightened child for example). Due to the flexibility of the shifter class, one of his personas could even be an undead (when he's a high enough level). So, what do you think? Interesting idea, or off the deep end and unplayable? Any suggestions to make it more playable would be appreciated. |

You could have been a 5 level wizard, then while taking the Shifter PrC, you develop (or release, if you got it but was untapped) your multi-personnality. I was thinking you should take level in many classes, then when you are the halfling rogue, you only use your roguish abilities and forget all the other classes abilities. Then when you become the half-orc barbarian, you forget your roguish abilities, and "find" that you can walk 10' faster. I would allow you to keep all your base saves & BAB, since being a 2-3 level barbarian when your true ECL is 12-15 is not really powerful. |
