| stolenchariot08-30-07, 07:51 PM | Well, every BBEG needs a group of minions. I decided mine would be a formalized organization. The organization in question is more or less a cult created by deviants who believe the primordial abomination that was effectively the first undead was a scion to the path of true imortality and enlightenment. While many of the members of this goup are sentient undead, not all are. As far as I've discerned so far, the group's authority was usurped by the BBEG, a woman named Delilah Silvers who has long since became the lich queen, a hueceva cleric who was her lover when they both were alive, an awakened wolf assassin who dos not know the nature of his employer, and a succubus I'll probably give class levels in a modified paladin class. There may be one or two more major players, but that'd be it. I maily need ideas for subordinants who would stick out, and if it help, the group is called The Silver Tears. |

But a few questions -What is a succubus paladin doing working with an evil organisation? -What is the goal of the organisation? -You've listed a few major players, are they all loyal, are they all whole heartedly commited or are there some who are only doing it to meet their own ends? Sounds like a complicated, but interesting organisation. Peace |

| Free198308-31-07, 02:13 PM | I think Fithero is right when he asks for more details. You could consider the following options, but you can bring in your own as well! What is the goal of the organisation? To bring back some sort of evil lost god that has been killed in the past. To find an extremely powerful artefact. To bring down the church of Pelor in the land of Erenis and replace it by an evil cult. To open a big portal that leads to the abyss to bring in more demons. You should also think about what methods your organisation is using to get to accomplish their goals. This could be: Brute force. They fight for what they need. Sneaky resourcefulness. Sending in specialized squads, stealing what they need. Blackmail. They look for dirt on the people who are in charge and then use the dirt to get their own dirt. Deceit. They just cheat everyone out of the things they need. You can have your organisation be versatile and let them use various methods to accomplish their goals. Try to find out what kind of resources this organisation has to her disposal. Obviously they already have a lot of knowledge and power. The underlings of your lichqueen could be quite strong themselves. But, an organisation is more than some accomplices and a BBEG. They also have: Money. Without money they won't get far. Of course these main characters bring in a lot of wealth but a lot of it will be used for their personal needs and although they might have a lot of it, they'll run out of it if they don't find a way to earn some. So look for some way that your organisation earns money. This could be in a legal ways, like setting up a trade network, or in an illegal way, like organized gambling, smuggling or assassination. Infrastructure. You'll need a headquarters, which will likely be hidden from the law, but they could need other structures or domains. Hideouts, training facilities in the wild, weapon/magic/book depots, meeting places, etc. Human resources. This organisation needs personnel. To bring in the money, to guard their properties, to take care of the buildings, to gather information, etc. Perhaps the leaders of your organisation have set up some kind of cult or guild to gather enough people. I'm sure you can think of different stuff, so if you have a better idea about what this organisation will be all about, tell us and we'll think further with you. Cheers |
| stolenchariot08-31-07, 10:07 PM | Okay, I figured that I would post again to iterate some of the details and background I missed earlier. Okay, in my campaign, I'm retooling paladins to remove some of the dead levels, removing the alignment restriction on smite, and allowing lay on hands to alternate healing and harming. So in a way, I'm combining the typical paladin with the paladin of tyrany, but I'm combining the abilities somewhat. Think; good clerics can use inflict spells and evil clerics can cast cure spells. Therefore, why can't evil and good paladins have that same flexibility? A few other things just for background; there is one evil aligned plane where all fiends originate from, they are all the same type of fiend, but can be of any evil alignment. By this ruling, a LE succubus could work. Also, the abomination the organization worships was sealed by a mysterious god who turned his body into a cage to contain it. This created the plane of imprisonment. The organization's ultimate goal is to free the abomination, effectively their god, but without a divine rank. Most of the ringleaders have their own agendas, but all require the same thing to meet their ends. As for their methods, the silver tears would be incredibly subtle. I decided the two major phases of their schemes aside from the compilation of resources would be locating the gate to their god, and finding a way to release it. To divine the gate's location, I decided they need to efectively infiltrate the positions of the other eleven gates to acquire various reagents for a spell. Opening it will require an artifact of some sort. The HQ for their undead members would be in a necropolis located in a desert tainted with copious negative energy, and the others would have varioushideouts depending on their region of control. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose09-01-07, 12:41 AM | Think; good clerics can use inflict spells and evil clerics can cast cure spells. Therefore, why can't evil and good paladins have that same flexibility? You have no idea what you just started. How many board alignment wars have started this way? Lets say for peace's sake that this is a unique aspect of your campaign world. As far as lesser minions go I'd make sure you grab a couple pale masters to use as skeleton/zombie factories. They can use the spell animate dead I think 1/day as a spell-like without any component. Dread Nec and True Nec both work well for controlling your copious undead legions. You're going for a highly subtle group so you'll want a few spectre/wraith with levels and the same with vampire. All have powers that allow for highly subtle actions, int to match, and none work in sunlight. Personally I like Master of Shrouds for subtle work since they focus on incorporeal undead. I would look into dividing up the main bodies of your undead forces and creating at least one head for each, especially with those who can create and control spawn. Also look into hirelings. People who don't care about the cause but are interested in the pay. Arcane Tricksters, Spymasters, Changlings, etc. all work for cash sometimes not to mention you've got enough high social rank individuals (I think) that you oughta have access to them. We don't really have backgrounds on your major players but looking at them I'd check that wolf in particular. Who awakened him and is he still tied to that individual or did he just go off on his merry way after? Last you mentioned 11 other gates? Presumably guarded by 11 other organizations? Consider the form those organizations take to determine who you're infiltrators are likely to be. Mages guilds can be accessed more easily by those who use magic but not to disguise themself while a paladin guard is an easy mark for a rogue in drag. |
| stolenchariot09-01-07, 08:40 PM | The wolf was the animal companion of a neutral evil druid. The druid had a contigency awaken cast on him to be cast upon the moment of his death. The druid was killed by a circle of neutral good druids. Fenrir, my cliche' name for the wolf at this point, more or less began carrying out his master's work; terrorizing villages encroaching on the forests, quelling the weak, and eliminating those who coddled such weakness. The other twelve gates are generally the sources of political power; the two largest human nations have their capitols built around the gates, and the gates are the only form of planar travel, so in some cases, the acquisition of such a gate could be a proverbial (or literal) goldmine. |
