Name: Malcom Mccahan
Race: Human
Class: Dread necromancer

Malcom was born to a family of minor nobles in a small city in the northerns states. The family was a good hearted lot, but they were very focused on appearing as correct and perfect as possible.
At the time when Malcom was born, his mother adopted a newborn girl whose mother had died while giving birth. The girl was named Leena. Leena and Malcom was raised like siblings, and a long way down the road they behaved accordingly.
At the age of 12 he started off from the magic college in the town as was tradition in the family for the youngest son to do. He did not show much promise though. At that age he also formed a friendship with Mithren Altaran, the child of one of his parents’ guards who was about at Malcom’s age.
By the age of 17 Malcom and Leena fell in love with each other, and as they had always had an uncanny sense of how the other felt, they quickly became lovers. The family was shocked by this, and terrified by the thought that it would get out so they tried their best to hide it, hoping that it would end soon like so many youngster romances.
It did not end soon though, and when Malcom and Leena had been lovers for 3 years and were beginning to think down the lines of marriage the family felt forced to act. What they did were that they sent off Leena to a cloister where she would be required to swear an oath not to love a man. Worse yet, to avoid any scandals, the family sent her off in the night without Malcom knowing. Suffice to say when Malcom discovered it he was furious.
He left his family, swearing that he would have nothing more to do with them and ran into the hills and forests. What happened there is not known, but he was gone for almost half a year. He has few fractured memories of a sinister grove of dead trees and of dead spirits dancing around him. The only memory from the time that stands clear to him from the time was a visit from the dead spirit of Mithren, one of those who had set out guarding Leena. He had told that they had been attacked by a mage of the wastes and that all of them had died. He also said that Leena had sworn not to leave for the afterlife before she could do so together with Malcom.
When he returned from the hills to the city where his family lived, he avoided contact with them but quickly learned that what the spirit of Mithren had told him was true, except that no one knew of any oath to stay behind.
This gave Malcom a new goal and now he traverses the world in search for Leena’s spirit, using a strange power that he had gained when he was away, the power to see, communicate with and command the spirits of the dead to work in his favor. He is not certain of what he would do if he was to ever learn who killed Leena, but chances are he will attempt to avenge her.

A possibly good aligned necromancer? Now I've seen everything.

depending on if the DM designates his form of necromancy as an evil act to use or not he might actually be of good alignment. If not he will be neutral, mainly doing good deeds, but kept from the good alignments by being a necromancer.

Also, his powers stem from the grove that he has fractured memories of, where he was bound to one of the spirits. It is this spirit that allows him to contact and command the spirits and it is this spirit that fuels his charnel touch. It is also the connection with this spirit that slowly turns him more and more undead.

Irony. You become a lich and her ghost is stuck; forever unable to reach its eternal reward because you can't die. :evillaugh

Still I can't help but wonder about the nature of the spirit that attached itself to you. If I were you I'd be expecting the DM to tell me that the mage who launched said assault had died and it was his spirit corrupting me in search of a new life.

I love it!

You should consider getting a ghostly visage as your familiar when the time comes, just to further tie in the spiritesque connection.

Dread Necro's seem to be getting a lot of love these days.

where is the visage? LM?

Is it just with imp. familiar that you can do that?

Anyway thanks for that suggestion, I totally love it.

Ghostly Visage is in Fiend folio.

It is one of the Familiars available to dread necromancers at lvl 7.

(and it provides an undeads immunity to mind affecting things on its host)
