| Piuro10-19-04, 05:38 PM | Well, here is draft 1.2 of my new (CN) Character, I know CN might seem a little (Far) off, but remember that he is genuinely insane. What do you guys think then? Malsvir Haurach was a member of a special order of monks, dedicated to no deity, but studying death so as to help the families of those whose loved ones had departed. He was well liked by the temple community and all those who knew him. He was tall, lightly tanned, with loose white clothes, and white tied back hair. When he turned 25, he left the order and tried setting up his own stationary life, but he was unable to. He became a wandering monk traveling from family to family telling them of the dead loved ones in the wars, he started telling villagers great stories of their village hero’s, and of other great deeds on the battlefields. Now working as a body recovery man, finding adventurers that had been slain at the hands of monsters, taking them back to their home villages, and recounting what he could gather of their last days, all of this for free, but he did not do requests, just what bodies he found, identified, and returned. This line of work had affected him mentally, considering the amount of carnage he’d seen, he no longer found the bodies, they found him. He just buries them where they lie in marked graves, along with any and all possessions they might have (and a scroll with his rune on it), and wrote up details to see if the description matched anyone missing. Though some of the graves had been dug up, and the bodies appear to have unusual markings on them (caused by the large variety of creatures that kill the adventures). Speculation arose about how these adventurers came to their demise, and eventually, it rose into flat a flat out legend, making him unwelcome wherever he tries to help, and slowly pushing him into a spiral of self loathing, he behaved friendly but withdrawn, only trusting those who befriend him for no gain (other than things like knowledge) of their own. He eventually became known as the Dead Man. Drifting from city to city, looking for the hospitality he once had, he no longer was welcomed completely anywhere, but still he pushed on with his old, trusting ways, gaining the trust of one person at a time, for those who knew him knew he is was no murderer; until... While at a small town on the seacoast, he was confronted by a gang of villagers who accused him of murdering their loved ones. He tried to calm them down, but to no avail. The leader of the group slashed Malsvir across the chest with small sword. Malsvir drew his only weapon, his small dagger, and proceeded to defend himself. Other people in the town square gathered around, some joining the mob. The emotional strain of years of unrespected work recovering bodies from the depths of monsters lairs was waying heavily on him. Malsvir Haurach snapped. He killed his way through the crowd, until confronted by a town guard wielding a glaive, he quickly snapped the guards neck, and took his weapon. Then he proceeded to toss himself back into the mob. What followed was a massacre, and when it was over, the town square was filled with bodies. In his insanity, he turned his attention to the nearby houses and buildings, and by the end of the day, the small costal village was a ghost town. It would have been very clear, had anyone survived to witness him, that he was not evil, just insane. He knew that he would be hunted after, and that while skilled with his fists, he was no match for a gang of sword wielding bounty hunters. He went to the empty metalworker’s shop, where he maintained the fire for several days, while studying weapon crafting, searching for something that would suit him. He crafted a falchion; it was a work of beauty, far surpassing what any new craftsman should achieve. The sword became as much of a legend as he did, and became surrounded by as much myth as he was. People said it had been cooled on the forge by his victims blood, and that it had been blessed by Vecna (The first of which is actually true). He had truly lived up to the name he was known by; The Dead Man. |
| Murr-Quan Lord #210-19-04, 09:23 PM | Amusing name. Shouldn't it be more like "Loex Sthyr?" ^.^ The alignment seems on target, if he is in fact insane. I'd place him as heading for Pandemonium; Chaotic Neutral with Evil tendencies. Very interesting backstory, too ... this sounds like the kind of person who would seem dangerous in-character, instead of being a random psychopath played by a random psychopath. If you play your cards right and don't reveal it all at once, the other players may even become intrigued by your past, and it could become a sidequest if the DM approves. Malsvir can be redeemed, right? And I assume he's a former Monk, on account of his alignment. What class is he now -- Fighter? Blackguard? |
