I won't be using this character anytime soon (because I'll be GMing any D&D games that happen anytime soon), but I thought I'd post him here so I could have a nicely developed character when I get the chance to play him... which will probably be in a higher level game.

"We will find you..." the sentinel groaned.
"Who? The law? Oh they won't find me. I know their tricks too well. Besides, I'm helping them. The rulebook is all well and good... but if no one acts outside of it, the land becomes a playground for criminals and tyrants. Trial before death, capture before trial... In theory these are wonderful practices observed to preserve the innocent, but all too often there are people willing to sell their testimonies for coin... The innocent are condemned while the real villains run free, rich, affluent... But what am I? I am the solution, one whom it is in your best interest to remember. Where there once was sanctuary for the vile, there shall no longer be. Where corruption holds strong and hides behind the lawman's obligations, I will hunt freely. The untouchable evil in this land will become vulnerable, and terror will at long last enter their circle," the infiltrator told the half-conscious guard outside his target's room. A mask expressing unfathomable insanity covered his face, so the man could have no idea of his true identity... but even then he could feel the intruder look pitifully upon him. The figure knelt down beside him and gripped his shoulder tightly, "You are not part of the evil I seek to eliminate, but you do serve them... Act more wisely next time, and I might not have to do this again." Before the guard could react, the attacker's other hand formed a fist and slammed into his temple, sending his mind reeling into blackness.
Some time later, he awoke to find a slip of paper resting atop his chest. The man snatched it up and read it as he massaged a throbbing pain on the side of his head. Almost forgot. Tell your client's pals it was the Freeblade who slit his throat.
Best regards!
-Freeblade.

Scatterbrained Assassin, Melreth "Freeblade" Roan

Melreth is a confusing vigilante just beginning to hit bigtime. So passionate is he in his cause that he often forgets to make his point before knocking out messengers... He's getting better, though. He enjoys talking and is quite apt to intimidation when it is necessary (which he often deems while assuming his alias). Despite his social skill, stealth infiltration is his preferred method. He uses a powerful blade art (shadow hand) to aid in his assassinations, and often purposefully let's the guards corner him just so they can see him melt into the shadows.

His favorite catchphrase, one that he never remembers to use, is "The Freeblade remains unstayed; it slays who it wants, where it wants, whenever it wants."

He's a swordsage... possibly with a level or two in the Vigilante class.

My questions:

What kind of background should he have? He hates corruption, but seeks to uphold the law as he believes it a necessity for mankind. He's probably been on the receiving end of rigged "justice", that or someone close to him was.
Any ideas?

Can you think of any other classes/prestige classes that would suit this character?

I'm considering making him ADD... what would ADD look like as a trait? lol!

Thanks!

The following is strictly commentary.

Excellent work as always, Vega. ^_^
An ADD Trait?
Forgetting to tell people your awesomeness before dropping the sleepy hammer is a good start...but he should also be a little distract-able...and.... impulsive at time when he's not working. :P

Nice, M_V, very nice.

As for background, I would not have him been unfairly judged, but his father. The worst thing for a kid is realising his dad is not the strongest man in the world. His dad was a guard, working for a local nobleman. The noble, who was a good man, got assassinated, and Melreths father was blamed and imprisoned. After that, Melreth spent most of his time inside his head, not paying attention to the outside world, planning his revenge. After several years, he created the perfect plan. Since his father was framed for the murder of a good man, he would murder bad men, and make sure nobody else got blamed! Seems fair, right?

About the catchphrase, have him remember it right after he kills someone, start scratching it into a wall or piece of furniture, getting distracted after three words, and forget it again...

You know what's crazy? I was dead wrong when I said I wouldn't be using this character anytime soon. Even though I'm GMing the current game (which should start sometime this week or next), there are only two players, so I decided I'd play this character because he A: fits in the setting and B: needs to be there so I don't accidentally slaughter the party.
Unfortunately, that means I can't focus on him as much since I don't want to steal the spotlight. I'd hate to create the DMPC that everyone hates. >>

Thanks for the advice and compliments Aaarrrgh! I enjoyed writing this character. :P I think your backstory and ideas fit very well.

So now I have another question, do you guys have any ideas how I can have fun playing his character, but not draw too much attention as a GMPC?

Just got some inspiration for a drawing, so here's a quick sketch of him (sorry if you don't like my manga-ish drawing style... It's kinda just how pictures fall out of my head. :P)

Note: he's holding the mask by the strap. >>
