Hiho!
I need some input on my newest character.
I've 'volunteered' to play the tank in our new campaign.
Well, usually I'm not a fighter-player but I decided to give it a go and better be good at it, though I really hate those few skill points.
I love exotic races and I convinced my DM to be allowed to play a minotaur (we're starting level 8 or 10, so tha's no problem). But I detest playing a character without any motivation or backstory so this is why I need YOU!

This is what I got so far:
http://www.deviantart.com/view/20967359/

Name: Kyros or Leonidas
Aged Minotaur.
Ex-Gladiator, used to be 'a star' in his prime, but determined neither to die in some arena for the entertainment of humans nor to train youths for a life in this savage buiseness.
He was prominent enough to be allowed to retire although he hasn't much money to live from, so he's forced to sell his services as bodyguard every now and then.
(I plan to make him a true neutral believing in the right of the stronger, I'll have to get along with a Pally in this group - my only fighting ally among several spellcasters...)
He is sure someday there'll be somebody stronger and younger and he'll die like he lived – fighting!
This is all he has ever learnd and is still enjoying to do, but lately he has been looking for reasons and gain -other than money- to charge into battle. If he dies it won't be for money!

I need a little more flavour still:

a good "Arena Name" / "Alias" he was fighting under

City where he lived while fighting
(this is a Faerun campaign, supposed to start in the dalelands. I was thinking Westport isn't too far off to make up a believable story how he got there, but if any of you has a better idea...)

the place he was born (the MM says minotaur live 'underground', but I'm not really sure where in Faerun I'd be able to meet a large(r) population) and how he became an arena fighter (If we're starting lvl 10 I'll actually take a level gladiator from 3.0 sword and fist...)

does anyone know a God such a character would be inclined to worship?

he might worship Tempus

the city of Surkh in the Vilhon Reach is inhabited by mostly lizardfolk, but they have many others who come to participate in the arena there.

the most brutal fight is a fight to first blood, does not sound like much but if your blood is drawn first, the the king of the city (who is a lizardfolk) will eat you, raw, but that does not keep the people away.

as for a ring name, something greek would be nice...

Your best bets for a deity are these two. I would go with Tempus personally.

I myself would choose a more unique religious following other than those commonly used within the Realms:

*Clangeddin Silverbeard(Dwarven Deity)
Portfolio: Battle, War, Bravery, Honor in Battle

*ILneval(Orcish Deity)
Portfolio: War, Combat, Overwhelming Numbers, Strategy

Or perhaps an outside deity(if your DM so allows):

Kord The Brawler
Portfolio: Strength, Athletics, Sports, Brawling, Courage
note: I think Kord would be an excellent choice as a rehabilitation deity. In going from a creature of blood-sport, to a being of the world...yet still respecting many of the traits that make for a strong warrior(from the arena years).
Dogma
Kord loves physical challenges & contests, and he promotes non-lethal sports as a method for resolving disputes among his followers. His teachings say that the strong & fit should lead the weaker, and that bravery is the greatest quality anyone can have, ruler and citizen alike. Everyone should scorn cowardice, says Kord.

Ares
Portfolio: War, Killing, Strife

Hercules
Portfolio: Strength, Adventure

a good "Arena Name" / "Alias" he was fighting under

Kyros, the Executioner : As he had a habit of beheading his opponents quite often

Kyros, the Crimson : Named as such due to the blood that often saturated his coat after a battle.

Kyros, the Hammer : Given this name due to the frequent broken limbs, cracked and crushed skulls..that befell his adversaries during combat.

Kyros, the Merciless : Self explanatory.

Kyros, the Impaler : Due to the frequency at which his adversaries would become impaled upon his horns during combat.

Kyros, the Devourer : Due to his habit of eating his most challenging opponents heart after a conflict.

Make him 'the hammer'. Part of his backstory is that he fought alongside a dwarf who was called 'the anvil' as a tag-team in the arena. After he retired, the dwarf (who lives alot longer and thus can stay in the ring for many more years), who your character almost began to treat like a younger brother, (despite the fact that the dwarf was much older than your PC) was killed in the ring, and your PC suspects foul play, although you have no clue who actually did it. give that to your DM, and he'll love you for it.

Thanks a lot! Keep the good ideas coming, this minotaur is going to be fun to play.

I guess I'm going to change his name from Kyros to something else.
Kyros sounds a lot like Gyros and I don't want enemies laughing off their a** or cracking obvious jokes whenever I encounter them (though 7 feet minotaurus should make them think twice). To make matters worse Kyros also resembles my native tongues word for cows/cattle too closely for my taste.

A little fun is alright but that is too much.
Shame I liked that name... but not an a minotaur. Or... maybe I could put I a high score in intimidate and growl... "My name is Kyros... DON'T ... EVEN ... THINK ... IT!"
