| cog_and_taz03-15-08, 11:28 AM | The mind of a broken mirror A body of glass and steel A false god made real This is the tale of Mirror. Sometimes, all that seperates lies from the truth is belief. No one seems to know exactly what forge created the creature that calls himself Mirror, or which side he was designed to fight for. Somewhere, a Cannith forge created a brilliant mind in a shell of reinforced glass and Riedran Crysteel. But it was the brilliance of a broken mirror - all marvelous lights, rainbows and glimmering facets, but ultimately broken. Some of the artificers at the forge realized this, and attempted to deconstruct this dangerous mind, but already, it was too late. The entire forge was levelled in a great outburst of mental power. Nothing was seen or heard, but within moments, all that stood was the warforged known as Mirror, amidst a background of shattered steel, blazing fires and bodies. It was then that Mirror heard the Voice for the first time. It went by the name of Bel-Shorath, in the guise of a winged Gray Render. Mirror recognized it immediately for what it was, not to mention what it will become. Bel-Shorath was a god, clearly the one that was meant to guide him. He spent the last few years of the war under Bel-Shorath's guidance, fighting both sides indiscriminately, noting that the god began to show more initiative, as well as growing more protective of Mirror by the day. Rarely did he see the god, but he heard His voice almost constantly. When the Mourning came at last, Mirror welcomed it. At last, he was free to roam the world, unhindered by those who formerly sought to control him. What would happen next, Mirror knew not. That was in his god's hands, and where they delivered him, he cared not. Ten years have passed, and to this day, the shattered mind and his god travel through the lands. To this day, many are unaware of their existence, save for the few who are unfortunate enough to encounter them. A walking god in Eberron? Breaks all the rules, I know, except that it doesn't. Bel-Shorath is actually entirely a figment of Mirror's imagination... or was, rather. Belief alone isn't enough to conjure up something like him, but belief coming from a psion who also has high cha (just to tick all the boxes) is. Bel-Shorath is more or less just a telepathic presence in Mirror's mind which can also communicate with others through Mirror, though. He has no corporeal or incorporeal form... that is, until Mirror decides to put an Astral Construct together :D |
| cog_and_taz04-04-08, 07:22 AM | Hellooo? Anyvun? |
| Neveroth04-04-08, 07:43 AM | I like it. The symbolism and general idea are excellent. Not much else to say. Insanity can be difficult to portray seriously when it comes to actual gameplay, but it can be a very interesting theme to explore. Have you given Mirror a personality, or was this just a concept-writing exercise? Did you run him in a game yet? |
| cog_and_taz04-05-08, 03:22 AM | Personalities for characters tend to develop as I play, rather than before. He'll probably be a fairly quiet, meditative type for the most part, though, and quite into his own personal religion. Also fairly crazed and disturbing, but in a quiet, detached way. Not the frothing-at-the-mouth type. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to find a game that will allow a crazy character or an evil one so far, much less both. Glad you like the backstory, though ^_^ |
| cog_and_taz04-09-08, 02:48 AM | Hello? Anyone else out here? *crickets* |
| Phaxi04-09-08, 07:22 AM | Hello? Anyone else out here? *crickets* There's no question in your post, what do you want help developing? |
| cog_and_taz04-16-08, 09:32 PM | Just feedback, mostly - what you think about it, what bits should change/need to go, that kind of thing. I want to end up with a backstory that will get the character in a game despite being crazy and evil (two big no-nos in most games). |
| ArgulFraster04-21-08, 03:45 PM | Terry Pratchett fan, are we? Looks like we have Mr. Teatime-Forged here...a beautiful mind, but beautiful like a broken mirror, all rainbows and broken facets, beautiful, but ultimately broken... Still, I look forward to this. |
