| Banzeira03-13-06, 04:40 AM | hey I have an idea of creating a Monk with the Vow of Poverty, I know that its not that big a deal for a monk, but still :) The character will be a human male. Well what I want help with is the personality :P I know that some of the personality have been given by the fact that I have chosen the Vow of Poverty feat, but then the question is WHAT ELSE?? I have been given a total of 80 points to my statistics. Str. Dex. Con. Int. Wis. Cha. I know that it might be more for Character Optimizing, but how would you place the points... just any idea. And if you feel you have the time I would truly like an idea about what to place in his background story. (he is a first lvl character) |

Oh, and expect to have to fall for every 'Sympathy' trick in the book. If a bad guy says "I surrender" or "Have Mercy" (even though you know it's only to try to stab you in the back the first chance they get) you must accept, because it's the honorable thing to do. Exalted seems to combine the worst aspects of 'Awful Good' and 'Lawful Stupid'. |

He would still feel anger, sorrow, sympathy, just like any other (perhaps even more so) but he would be very controlled in his showing of these emotions, he might just shed a single tear over a death for example. The feeling is no less profound though. Apart from your usual monk code that you follow, add on another exalted poverty code that you follow aswell. Eg: give all money you earn to orphaned children, help even those who can help themselves... i dunno. Just be cool, mellow, never scream or yell... you are the eye of the storm... totally calm... while the storm that surrounds you is acutally your fists and feet.... you gotta fight too :P Have fun. The Character played by Jet Li is a fine example I think. Also there are some great examples of Hong Kong action at it's finest. Another real world example is the Shao lin monks, of Tibet i think. take look at thier philosophy and it may give you some insight. Your characters first thoughts should always be how is what I am doing going to help others. if the answer is it isn't then you stop and do something that will. killing is not always the only alternative. You may want to look at codes of honor that allow your opponent to strike the first blow before you will enter mortal combat, healing opponents you defeat before handing them over to the local authorities and other flavourful things like that. It may seem that they will get in the way of a good game but you can really emerse yourself in this character and I think you will find it very rewarding. |
