after pondering on my dervish character for a while I decided to widen my perspective abit and see what else could be fun to play... then I stumbled over the Ascetic Rogue feat from CA. So I thought I'd try a Monk/Ass, if my DM will allow assasinlvls to work as rogue lvls for unarmed damage, would it not be awesome with a monk silently gliding thru the shadows and using sneakattack+stunning fist to dish out massive damage, and when the need arrises he can use the succesionmove of his school, the "fist of ruin"(or something...), and hide in plain sight is plain icing on the cake^^

does the idea sound nice, and if so, waht backround would you give him? roughly ofcourse...

A good backround for such a character would probibly have to give reasons for his choice in tactics. Some would include:

1) said character wittnessed assasination of villages mayor, who is also his brother. Instead of seeking revenge, your character seeks the assasain and tries to learn under him.

2)Your character, at a young age, won a kick-boxing battle. He honed his power till one day he was so good, he saved his village from a troll or something. He decides that he could make money from this (probibly due to a low charisma or a mental illness) that the only way to make money from fighting ability is assasinations

3) born in a hermets house, your character grows up in unbrittled nature. As he grows, he notices the sudible aspects of nature: the strong, sturty oaks swaying in the wind, the gentle falling of leaves onto a rushing creek, the eternal dance of peretitor and pray... wanting to become one with natures balace, your caracter takes the role of the prey, stalking his "prey" with his fists, seeing weapons below him.

Hope theis ideas helped!

sounds solid, not a fan of the save-village-ploy, but otherwise it sounds good, will probably, work on the survival of the fittest theme, will post a backround in a day or two...

"There are those who serve the Hokkano Court openly, wearing the Chrysanthemum Seal pinned to their shirts. They serve the Emperor pride, bringing lawbreakers to account and bringing peace, order, and harmony to the land. Yet not all of the Court's servants work by daylight. As the forces of disorder and disobedience lurk in the shadows, so too must the Emperor's servants.

I do not wear the Chrysanthemum Seal openly. That is why I instead have it tattooed unobtrusively on my side, below my right armpit -- yet although it is not there for all to see, it still grants me the special dispensation granted to all bearers of the Seal -- and the trust that my actions will be taken under the Emperor's orders for the good the the Hokkano people and the protection of the state.

I was trained for this from infancy. I never met my parents -- there are those who say that my parents were dissidents or rebels. I do not know whether these rumors are true, but if they are, I have nothing but confidence that the Emperor's justice has given them the fate they deserve. It is not my place to inquire into judicial matters from my infancy: my duty is to seek out and neutralize enemies of peace and order.

Naturally, my identity as a servant of the Court is frequently best masked when I undertake my missions. As such, I am given considerable discretion in attaching myself to adventuring parties, other departments of the Court's bureaucracy, businesses, et cetera. Sometimes these are, independently of my mission, important matters, and I find myself compelled to take on missions only tangentially related to my original mission. For instance, if I find myself working for the postal service as part of my mission, then I am bound by honor to make sure that the messages entrusted to me are delivered, just as any other postal worker. I never forget my primary mission, though, and I especially never forget that I am a servant of the Emperor, a bearer of the Chrysanthemum Seal, and that my duty is to the Court."

UPDATE: By the way, the whole Hokkano/Court/Emperor/Chrysanthemum Seal thing is all made up. Adapt it to your campaign setting as you wish. In Eberron, for instance, maybe he could be an agent of the Order of the Emerald Claw.
