We don't want to deal with Clerics Of Pelor/Drunken Masters. |
| CrimsonDeath08-29-07, 08:37 PM | While certain class combinations may be counterintuitive, I think it's unfair to say that they can't make sense. Let's consider your Cleric/Rogue example. Perhaps he was originally a Rogue, but an experience later in his life converted him to the worship of a new deity-- perhaps an event so significant that he decided to pursue a career as a cleric. For example, in the book Les Miserables, the protagonist, Jean Valjean, steals some items from the home of a priest. He is later arrested, and when the priest is asked to identify him, the priest claims that the items Valjean stole were actually a gift. Valjean did not then run off and become a priest, but it would not have been surprising if he had. Furthermore, Complete Champion includes such classes as the Shadowguard and Shadowstrikers, members of an order associated with the Church of Pelor and devoted to espionage. Now, let's examine your Ninja/Ranbow Servant idea (setting aside, for the moment, that he would need another class-- Sorceror, perhaps-- in order to qualify for Rainbow Servant). Ninja are sometimes portrayed as living in secluded villages where they learn their stealth and combat arts. Meanwhile, one of the prerequisites for becoming a Rainbow Servant is finding a Coatl in his hidden temple in the jungle. If an order of Ninja is dedicated to protecting such a temple, I could easily see some members of that village becoming Rainbow Servants, in order to better exemplify the ideals of their masters. I would also like to point out that characters don't run around wearing badges that say "Ranger 3/Fighter 2/Barbarian 3/Pious Templar 3/Champion of Corellan Larethian 4". A character has no specific concept of his own class, and multiclassing (or, in fact, the gaining of levels in general) is simply an abstract representation of the growth and expansion of the character's capabilities. |
