The_Dude 02-26-04, 09:15 PM	I'm looking for help developing the background for my sorcerer. So far what I know is that he accidentally killed his girlfriend with a burning hands spell, and he is depressed almost to the point of being suicidal. He blames the gods for his misfortune because he was given this power that ultimately destroyed the one he loved. I'm looking for help figuring out exactly what happened when he smoked his girlfriend. One idea I had was that he was using the burning hands spell to protect her or himself, and somehow she got in the way. But I'm looking for any situation in which he had good intentions, and it turned out horribly wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?
Kobold Paladin 02-26-04, 09:33 PM	Maybe he thought he was casting a diffent spell maybe, mage armor or sheild but screwed up because he is new with his powers. Maybe it was to protecter her from a goblin or maybe it was something like him trying to magicaly "improve" aspects of her.
Masque 02-26-04, 10:27 PM	Since sorcerers develope their spells naturally, you could say that it was the first time his powers actually manifested. Something tradgic happened, take for example this: You and your woman were enjoying a pleasent walk, from the small little town you live in to some major city within a few miles (still a several hour trip from where you live). You were intended on spending a much needed day away from your typical chores, and were going to endulge in a weekend of pampering and blissful love. Along the rode, you are ambushed by thieves (goblins, briguns, insert-nasty-here, etc). Surrounded, you whirl around when you here the twang of a crossbow and put up your hands to block the bolt that's in-comming towards your girlie, and to your horror, an arc of flames shoot out from your hands, incinerating the villians, the bolt, and your girl in one horrific moment. Welcome to sorcery-hood, buddy :( -M
Daniel _the_Zodiac 02-26-04, 10:44 PM	Or you could've been attacked in a small, cramped and wooden building. The spell was cast and through the smoke and confusion you were able to escape outside but fainted from the smoke and when you awoke all that was left of the building was smoking remains. That way your girlfriend could still be alive and also you can roleplay a feeling of helplessness since you weren't able to do anything to help her escape. Or you could just ignore everything I said.
Bromabaz Silvertwister 02-27-04, 01:22 AM	sigh, it's hard being a twisted freak, but what the heck, somebodies gotta say it. :D I like the idea of it as the first time your skills manifested. So going with that from a twisted mindset, we get: You and your GF were getting a bit frisky, and in the heat of passion, you well.... :mage: gives you a nice nightmare thingy since you were so close to the body as it was burning. Like in raiders of the lost ark with the faces melting.

I think I'm going to go with this: One evening Katrina and I were enjoying a pleasant walk on the road just outside of our village, when we were suddenly ambushed by thieves. Surrounded, I whirled around when I heard the twang of a crossbow and put my hands up to block the bolt coming towards us. Then, in my horror, a sheet of flame shot from my hands incinerating the thieves, the bolt, and Katrina in one horrific moment. That was the first and last time my powers manifested in such a destructive way. I tried to help Katrina, but the fire took her so quickly. As I knelt in front of her body, some of the villagers arrived. Seeing what had happened they tried to stone me to death, but I managed to flee into the wilderness where I was able to lose them.
