We going evil in my new campaign. Mostly powergamers but some good RPers too. The party is way too big, but we should pare it down soon.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my character. He's a Lawful Evil Gold Elf from Silverymoon who is a Specialist Necromancer. Eventually he'll become a Pale Master and then a Lich as his depravity and familiarity with undeath grows. Right now he's second level and not much evilness has gone on. He's basically studied tomes of religion and history, is starting to learn about Velsharoon and struck up a tenative and short-lived friendship with a half-Drow.

Well, enough preamble, here she is: (Oh and remember, some of it may not be wholly factual...its written in the 3rd person, but from his POV...if you get what I mean).

Hallian Aresseruil (HA-lee-INN AHR-ess-rhee-YULE), born in the early years of Alustriel's reign as High Mage, is the youngest son of the wealthy and powerful Nobles: Aerias (AIR-rhee-iss) and Amaitae (ah-MAY-ah-tay) Aresseruil. Aerias, in addition to having much influence in the city, runs the largest import/export business in Silverymoon. The eldest son, Lyemar,(LEE-uh-mar) runs the day-to-day affairs of the family business that exports furs, timber, herbs and ores while importing textiles. The middle son Caellam (KAY-lam) is a Knight-Sargeant of the Knights in Silver. Hallian's younger sister, Nuviayr (new-VEE-ahr), is a talented singer who dallies at the House of the Harp in her free time. She also spends much time at the Halls of Inspiration. She eventually will be married to Azawyn Arimilvin (AZ-ah-win ah-RHIM-uhl-VIN), the son of a large clothing manufacturer, in order to further increase her family's influence and wealth.

Hallian spent many years at court giving the young noblewoman a merry chase. His good looks and natural grace attracted many smitten women, however Hallian's lack of social skills (with women) and lack of interest made him unavailable to even the most flirtatious girl. The fact that he was unattainable made them pursue him all the more. Hallian, however, had but one love, his own sister Nuviayr. They are the closest in age of the siblings, so they grew up together. Hallian used to spend hours with her while she sang songs to him. He fell in love and pledged his heart to noone else. Her impending marriage to Azawyn made him bitter and angry.

During his time at court he developed an interest in magic and discovered that he had no small talents in the area. His parents enrolled him in the Lady's College where he excelled at Conjuration but struggled in and untimately excluded Divination. His true field was Necromancy, where he was a natural learner, but the instructors were loathe to teach him in its arts beyond what was already approved for general study. No field of study was truly prohibited to Hallian, but strict warnings not to dwell upon the arts of Necromancy were administered. Hallian acquiesed and continued his general studies, showing much promise. He soon was granted the duraph token, allowing him access to the Vault of Sages. His intelligence, level headedness and desire for knowledge swayed the instructors to give Hallian such access. In the Vault, Hallian studied the world's religions, various books on anatomy, alchemy, necromantic tomes and other books of magical studies. His constant search for knowledge helped submerge his feelings for his sister and hatred of the injustice of her marrying another. He evetually found books on the wards and defenses of Silverymoon and discovered that access to spellbooks in the Vault is prohibited. His intense desire for knowledge eventually led to him back to the darker aspects of Necromancy, which were curiously absent from most of the tomes. From what he could gather from the odd tome and piecing together knowledge, Hallian fell to the temptations of the forbidden and the challenge of a good puzzle.

Hallian began experimenting in his room on his own but was fearful of the city's ward. His attempts at the darker aspects of Necromany may cause the ward to trigger an alarm. He fearfully cast his spells on vermin like insects, small rodents and the occasional pet. Much to his chagrin and consternation, spells he practiced in class would not work in the safety of his room. Summoning Fiendish Dire Rats was easy, but the ward was ever vigilant. Convinced that he would be caught if he continued to study within the city's walls and mistrusting his own actions on the eve of Azawyn's wedding, Hallian fled Silverymoon, leaving behind little more than a hastily scribbled not about being smothered by the school. He seeks knowledge of the Necromantic arts of all kinds and also plans on becoming powerful enough to rescue his sister from her "uncouth and unwanted" husband (by now they probably are married).

Hallian is beholden to no laws but his own personal convictions. He discovered the teachings and dogma of Velsharoon while studying in the Vault and from cultists while outside Silverymoon. He mostly associates with Velsharoon's teachings about the pursuit of knowledge of Necromancy. He hated the priests of Duneir for restricting access to such knowedge in the Vault. Life, death and undeath interest Hallian, and the more he learns, the more he gets sucked into the siren song of evil. He doesn't kill without purpose, only those who either stand in the way of his goals or as sacrifices towards his knowledge. Those who die in his service are treated with the utmost respect and their families are often compensated for their loss. He may use the body and soul after death to further his goals, but once the need has passed, they are returned to eternal rest with honors and a quick prayer to Selune (The religion of Hallian's birth) to guide their spirit through the dark. His respect to Velsharoon is not worship, merely one who was once like him deified and thus deserving his respect. Hallian will not harm children because his happiest memories came from when he and his sister were children together. He feels that they should have a chance to feel joy and love before the reality of the world crushes their dreams. Wistful and capable of the occasional bout of melancholy, Hallian is nonetheless as amiable companion, especially to those who desire knoweldge. His years as an awkward recluse have stunted his social growth and he truly has a hard time understanding people (mostly women). That being said, he is fully capable of having a conversation and the like, he is just niave and sometimes has a hard time picking up nuances, subliety and sarcasm. Books are easy to understand because everything must be spelled out to be communicated efficiently.

He ended up in Zhentil Keep and met a young Cleric of Bane. He tried to study and pick up knowledge he was earlier forbidden but a task arose and he was sent out of the Keep with the Cleric and others to complete this task. He managed to gain two books on history and religion and, although they are mostly about Bane, reads them avidly, delighting in the diferences in tone and dogma from that of his previous history and religious books. Currently, he and the young Cleric have joined forces to help meet their own ends and because they are the only two party members who value each other's intelligence and ideals. Hallian seeks dominion over all knowledge and is curiously drawn to the Necromantic arts, while the Cleric seeks dominion over all men for the Glory of Bane.

Long enough post? This is just a show-and-tell thread, but replies are welcomed.

Hmm......so he's only mostly evil. Better than all evil. He might end up becoing more evil as time moves on...I see the seeds of further sorrow and corruption within him.

Kinda like being mostly dead. Although I don't think anyone would try to stick a bellows in a Lich's mouth. :)

Yes, he's mostly Evil. Lawful Evil was the best and closest descriptor for his alignment...he'll get even more LE as his studies progress and he has the opportunity to discover the Pale Master abilities.

I purposefully made him just creepy instead of evil at early levels. Kinda just a intelligent man with a burning desire to learn. His sister is a skeleton in the closet but nothing will come of that til the later levels when he is more poweful....Right before the Lich levels. I think he'll buy an estate and man it with undead servants where he'll try to get her to live with him in peace. She'll refuse of course...I know my DM well enough for that. He'll then totally give himself over to evil and become a Lich. He might even kill her and preserve her corpse or raise her as an udead wife.
