Hey guys,
I'm starting up a new capaign pretty soon, and i want to make a "Different" sort of character. He's gonna have quite a few ranks in Perform (sing) but i don't want him to be a bard. He's going to have really weird makeups, weird hair, discolored eyes, that sort of thing. Plus he'll just start singing at random times and just do things for no reason. Thing is, i'm not really sure where to start at. What class should he be? What sort of weapons should he carry? That sort of thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, the concept sounds interesting enough. If you want an eccentric character who pushes himself so far from society, perhaps being Chaotic and taking up Finesse Fighting would be good. Nothing spoils a bully's day to see the "wimpy looking freak" gracefully give them all the one up. A rapier is usually associated with the less unorthodox peoples of a society. I'd say high INT for witty comebacks when people make fun of him, perhaps low WIS. He does whatever he feels like without a whimsical care of what society thinks -- strange makeup, strange hair, he doesn't care what others think.

Rogue, Fighter, perhaps even Ranger might work well. Probably not a spellcasting class, unless you wanted to, in which case I recommend a Wizard (that kooky guy who's always seen with his books and won't stop singing!).

Chaotic Neutral and Chaotic Good are fun alignments to play because you can play characters who deviate greatly from the norm without difficulty. :D

Well, you could go with a cleric of a chaotic deity like Olidimara... maybe with the Madness domain from Complete Divine.

Acrane Trickster might be a possibility.

Or, going completely the other way, you might be a Monk (there might be some arcane philosophical reason behind all the seemingly wierd and random stuff you do).

All-in-all, though, I wouldn't worry about it too much - the other PCs are just going to kill you after the first 5 minutes, anyway.

Tending away from society, and doing things that seem contriversal? Go for Drunken Master. He he that would be good. You start singing *drunkenly* at inopertune times and then kick the crud out of those who come to stop ya =-) Yeah that sounds good. And you could always blame it on being drunk.

ah, FatGnome beat me on suggesting Drunken Master (CW). For ranks in Perform, you'll want either monk or rogue. If you can use UA, Human Paragon would be great and select Perform the skill to carry over (I forget the actual name of it).
Monk/Drunken Master would be great. Just because he acts haphazardly doesn't mean his values have to be chaotic. Lawful Neutral would probably be the way to go.

What about a mad fighter using a Spiked Chain, and making music by twisting it on the ground?

I'd try to think of some stage-prop, which then gets turned into a weapon. Work with your DM on it.

Perhaps a Scythe or a flail. The spiked-chain is not a bad idea, but don't abuse it like all the other spiked-chain-builds.
