| Radijs01-23-06, 04:26 PM | And he is going to be raised. But I wonder how he is going to react... He died in combat fighting some soldiers who rode on lizards. The fight went well and I managed to get rid of one rider and I was left facing his mount the next turn. Its worth mentioning at this point that its a swashbuckler campaign and the point of all this is to be flashy. So I think: Hey free mount! And in the action-hero movie style I declare that I'm going to run oer its head along its back in order to mount it. DM calls for a tumble and I fail. Lizard chomps me and swallows my dead deceased corpse whole. The general persona of my character was that he was self confident. A master-adventurer and not too shy to say so. So for one part I expect him to suffer a strong blow to his self-confidence and that he won't be inclined to take any risks until he has his condidence back. But I dont think that covers it so I'd like some advice from you about what other possibilities get presented. Additional: The character is a rogue and because of his death he lost his only cleric level. His patron deity was mask. |

I see two tracks you could take with this. 1) What's the worst that can happen? That's the proverbial death? So the worst that can happen I can make up by developing my prowess- sure I'm a bit iffy and not where I quite was before, but I'll recover and until then- Onward! 2) Actually.... I don't think that that's a good idea. I suggest we think things through.... just to make sure things go right- lets just dying isn't the most pleasant of experiences... I know from experience... so how about we try and sneak in from the east gate instead disguised as peddlers.... 3) Perhaps he completely blanks about it- Denial self-defense mechanism. "I'm a bit iffy what happened then" He'll try and continue as if nothing happened, but he might (or might not) have a tendency to be a tad more cautious... 4) Look how foolish I was... I wasted all my time in bravado when I neglected (blah blah blah, radical alignment conversion) Also, it might depend on how the afterworld was for him. Did Mask accept him into his fold, or was he left in the city of the dead to bargain his way into the Demon Wars, did he enjoy the experience or does he look with ill at the final time he may die... and perhaps he wants to change it, perhaps he doesn't. Hope my little two pence helps. |
| Talen Lee01-23-06, 06:45 PM | Lose self confidence? Why the hell should he do that? I mean, he's already died. What's the worst thing that could happen from here? |
| interpretivechaos01-23-06, 11:18 PM | Just a theory, but I don't think dying is the most pleasant thing in existence. In addition to the whole making you worse, the actual dying parts seems mildly painful (Especially being eaten alive by a lizard). It could serve as a detterent to acting recklessly in the future, just to avoid the whole dying thing again (Of course it might not, but It definately could...) |
| Shaggy_Shaggs01-24-06, 05:23 AM | Some adventurers might react to this by becoming more overconfident, to the point of arrogance. "Look, I died and that didn't stop me, what makes you think you have any chance of deterring me from my goals?" Just a thought. |
| Morka01-24-06, 08:29 AM | "Damn lizard! I knew I was indigestible..." :P |
| erbmjw01-24-06, 09:01 AM | Your character's outlook could be "Death! Oh come on, I've been there, got the cloak, now I'm going to ...?%describe next flashy move%?" |
| Radijs01-26-06, 08:04 PM | Well I just finished the session a few hours ago and my character went BAM ZOOM! straight to the moon. I was raised by a female cleric. Some kind of drow-like elf. Right for a good start I made a pass at her. Then later on we fight in the sewers. I dive through the sewage to come up near the enemy druid and tear him a new one with my daggers. Of course my character is in complete denial that he died. He just can't recall what happened there but he probably saved the lives of everybody there with his masterful skills. |
| Arco Versipellis01-28-06, 11:35 AM | I'd rethink my level of cleric and my deity (for roleplay reasons only), perhaps his faith was shaken by the incident. |
