| Moradin03-20-04, 09:09 PM | Well, first off, yes I am new here. I have been playing DnD for roughly a year, and am both a DM and a player. I never make a character without writing at least some history, and with my primary character here, I have fleshed out a nice background. I just want to know what others think of it. Name: Ollum Mithrilrasp Race: Dwarf Gender: male Class: Barbarian 4/Fighter 2/Berserk 1 Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Age: 60 Ollum was born to the dwarves Agantyr and Derra Mithrilrasp on December First. He was born into the Mithrilrasp Clan, a weapon-forging tribe of blacksmiths who lived in the very small mountain range which they call the Mithrilrasp Mountains, known to the local other races as Greyfang Peaks, because of the sharp rocks the jutted out from the cliffsides. The Mithrilrasp clan were solid fighters, and trained all of the men in an academy, lead by the gruff and aging instructor, Greoff. Ollum joined the academy as soon as he could, as did every other boy in the clan. He was eager to grab hold of one of the dwarven waraxes that were the trademark of the clan. The Mithrilrasp clan were fighters who focused on defense and opportunity. Their warriors relied on wearing heavy scale mail, wielding large iron shields, and carrying their waraxes. Almost instantly Ollum was thinking differently. Why waste time being defensive? He thought it more battle-appropriate to wear the lightest armor possible, to make the wearer optimize movement and fighting space. But nevertheless, he knew better than to question the ways of his people, and trained at the academy. Time passed, and as Ollum grew, his different thoughts expanded proportionally. The other young fighters were almost repulsed at his state. He had not grown into a handsome dwarf, not even by dwarven terms. His face was rugged and wild, and his hair accented this outlandish look by always being unkempt and sticking up every which way. He just barely kept care of his beard, which many thought was unacceptable. Unbeknownst to the other clansmen.. Ollum would sneak into the academy at night, drawing not one, but two waraxes from their cases, and wearing no armor at all, he attacked at the training dummies. He enjoyed this so much more. One day, Ollum was sent with a few packages to deliver to the halfling merchants that stopped buy often, to buy the dwarven equipment to take to market. He took the parcels down the steep slope of the rocky steppes, and took in everything he could. he had never been down the slopes before. When he was delivering the packages, he noticed a forest at the base of the mountain. He had never seen such a place. There was so much green, so much color. All he had ever seen is grey, white, black, and brown...nothing like this. He slipped away that night into the forest, and every cell in his body was invigorated by the colors and smells and sounds that the forest had to offer. He loved the wild animals that strode through, and the flowers that spurted from the twigs of bushes and trees. He even met a friend in the forest. An aged gnome druid met his acquaintance, and started to teach him. Ollum then regarded this old gnome as even more of a mentor than Greoff. He listened to the gnome's every word, and watched his every move. He was thoroughly intrigued by the wonders of the outside world, and wished only to learn more about them. He returned to the Gnome's hut as ofted as he could, and learned all about the plants and animals that were so different and non existant in his world. One day, while looking through the books on the druid's shelves, he found a tome that he thought was most intriguing... it was about Deities that he had never heard of before. The gnome said not to trust in that rubbish; that nature was the only principal power that was needed for faith and grace. but still, Ollum was absorbed into the pages of the book. He could not read very well, as he never sough to do it, so he had the gnome dictate the contents. And finally, one day, as they wer ereadin,g he found a deity that appealed to him even more than the great Moradin. Thor; god of strength and lightning. The picture of him sank into Ollum's mind forever. A wild, unkempt, beast of a man, with muscles bulding like stones beneath his skin. Ollum was spellbound. He began to regard Thor as his patron deity, sending prayers to him rather than Moradin. And he knew then what he had to do.. He had to tell his people of his blasphemous ways. He would no longer hide his secrets. For hiding them and being confined to the small mountain was not enough for him. He wanted to be free.. free to run the flat, grassy plains, and swim in the shimmering lakes. He announced it to his tribe the following day. His parents were ashamed, the leader of the tribe shocked, and everyone flabbergasted in every sense of the word. After his declaration, the Leader held council with Ollum's parents and other high authorities. Ollum was exiled from the clan. It was customary, and it could not be broken for anyone. And so Ollum left his mountain home, carrying with him only food, water, scale mail, a shield, and a waraxe. He departed the only land he eve knew, to seek a place that he had never known, but knew would be more to his liking.. And so hes been through many ordeals with the party.. his habits include: 1.) Drinking 2.) Defiling the names of giants and orcs 3.) Desecrating the bodies of his victims 4.) using his kills' teeth, claws, hide, (depending on the creaure) as gaudy jewelry and vestments to show off his strength. 5.) Riding his Rhinoceros (his favorite animal, and mount; a warbeast rhinoceros named Agantyr, after his father) Ollum does not really get along well with the tall folk. He really doest like elves, and can only tolerate humans and half breeds. He gets along famously with other dwarves, halflings, and gnomes, however. Well; thats about it. |

| beavis12303-22-04, 10:11 AM | Looks like you have a well balanced character with plenty of role-play. Most of people will not respond unless you ask to become either a) Half Red Dragon Disciple of Thor or b) Lichified vampire Qualinesti Quan-ti. I am sure there is a supplement out there for these types. Good luck! |
